Great Players Stan Getz - Voyage

he big question; do you still need a teacher Kev ?
Most certainly. I learn something every lesson, keeps me motivated and it's a lot of fun. His sound is what he wants it to be. Huge. And earthy. He's good in altissimo too. I went in with the sop one day. No problem, just played everything an octave up on tenor. Effortlessly.

Yeah; good points all round. It is a journey Jeanette: a long one. There are many players I would take a lesson from gladly. Aldevis, you are a pro player. I am genuinely interested; if you were to take a lesson from your old teacher, what do imagine would be the theme/ vibe. I hope I have worded this ok. Thanks ade

I love Getz, definitely my Sax Hero, closely followed by Ben Webster.

His Jazz Samba album for me always make smile.... I remember buying it at Heathrow Airport not knowing about it around 15 yrs ago, then putting it on my Phone and Headphones and thinking Wow - I want to do that...

I've just finally got round to some reading up on his troubled life history which is summarized very well here in one long page - complete with Background music while you read.

Also a great interview on YouTube where he talks about being Stoned for most of his Career.

Both the above bought him into a new light for me... Enjoy.

I agree, I love that Jazz Samba album too. I have a double album which starts at the beginning of his career with a few Bebop numbers that I really like and then his progression into the Latin sounds. Another album I've got is wonderful, he is accompanied by guest artist Laurindo Almeida.
I've never read any biographies about him yet but would like to, simply because of his music.
