Hello Dolly was written by Jerry Herman for the musical of the same name, which was released in 1963 and moved to Broadway in 1964. The musical was a huge success, running for over 2800 performances on Broadway.
Louis Armstrong recorded the song as a single and his version became a massive hit. So much so, that when the Musical was made into a film in 1967, he appeared in it singing this song.
Two versions of the score are included, a straight Realbook version as well as a syncopated version, which is a bit closer to Louis Armstrong's version, with a quaver instead of a crotchet on the first syllable of "Dolly".
Armstrong does a "push" on this note, however, so that he starts it on the last quaver of the previous bar and makes it a crotchet length in total.
Many thanks to @nigeld for help setting up this SOTM. Looking forward to hearing your versions of this song.
