Here we go,

For all you lovely people out there in "saxophone land" my pick for June '13 BOTM is a great tune called

"My one and only love"

There are lots of great versions on youtube with some as instrumentals and some with a mix of instrumental and singing.
So there you have it folks, lets make this BOTM a good one... (hey hey! maybe some of you would like to mix it up a little with saxophone playing AND "crooning" ;}, the singing part is 100% optional)
but let us all have fun with it...
I am really looking forward to this months postings

I have Bb and Eb parts and a backing track...

format is the usual, 4 bars intro then 32 bars (X2)
note:
it is best to make your improvisation 24 bars in length then take it out with the melody for the last 8 bars
also on the improvisation section i have made it a double tempo bossa feel...

A link to dropbox with pdf and backing track will be posted very soon!
thanks,
thesaxman71 (aka Ian)

Nice one. That's a great tune with lots of excellent versions recorded.

Not sure about singing it, but I wish I could sound like this:

Looking forward to June.

The singing part is 100% optional and just a fun suggestion, i was inspired to write that because i heard other forum members posting sound clips of themselves singing and playing the saxophone.
Have fun with this BOTM
regards,
Ian

Another great version to digest by the "master" himself (my personal inspirational player of all time so I am bias)

note: nobody is expected to play it like this, it is merely for you to listen to an alternative version to draw idea's from and in my opinion a fantastic version :)

And a nice vocal version by a fellow Geordie (yet again bias), very sweet indeed!

Re: "My one and only love" 13/06

Great choice. I was hoping this would turn up on BOTM at some point.

The first Saxophone album I purchased was "3-4-5 The Verve Small Group Sessions" by Benny Carter, and still my favourite album. This is Benny Carters version that is also on the CD. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YQhU8GZR2Bc

Looking forward to hearing the version to be posted and hope to contribute, once I can get a good take of last months ballard.

I like the Tatum version but Sting? He destroyed a good song!

Sting was always revered for his jazz playing!!!!!!!!!!!

Re: "My one and only love" 13/06

As a break from the " Course" I thought I'd have a play with this months tune. This is an extended version with a full 32 bar second chorus then tag ending, just incase anyone wants to try this backing track..It really is a great tune that Ian has picked this month..

"Fantastic Version"? ... It is awe inspiring ... a truly brilliant muso and a decent human being ... not that I know him it is just what he did..... with humility....
