Ligatures Lig fit for the taper on the Onyxite tenor PPT.

That's the finger moulding finish. After a bit of sanding, it should retail for £29.99 tailor made for the PPT.😉

When I get my FL. copy from Poland. I will use the same material to form a protective sheath to stop it scratching the PPT. Up here for thinking, down there for dancing.😉

Not very well. Unless you've got a really fat sop mouthpiece. Struggles on metal alto mouthpieces too. Might be ok if you padded it out a bit with something (piece of wood!). Everything else (up to a PPT baritone at least) is fine.
More power? Don't make me laugh.

Thanks Nick 🙂

I'll save my pennies then

I used a Rovner Dark size "2R" and a Rovner Light size "L8".

Any standard Rovner for tradition hr tenor mouthpiece will fit. I've never tried the Platinum (metal Rovner lig) on the PPT.

The FL Ultimate didn't fit... it slipped away from the mouthpiece.
The FL Pure Brass ( http://tamingthesaxophone.com/pic-sax/ppt-onyxite-FL-01.jpg ) fitted good but I didn't like at all the response... a sort of reeds/lig vs. mouthpiece mismatch.

I definitely preferred the Rovner on the PPT... because the response was faster (and because they hold the reed firmly on the mouthpiece without too many tension on the reed).

I saw this thread pop up a couple of days ago and it was of interest to me - as I've mentioned in other threads, I've got a PPT which I want to like, but it keeps squeaking when I play "enthusiastically" on the notes at the top of the treble clef.

I'd tried experimenting with different reeds which was largely inconclusive, but I tried a different test on Sunday - I held the reed tightly against the mouthpiece with my thumb - my results were much better, with no squeaking. The one that came with the mouthpiece I think is a Rovner star (or possibly a copy of one). I probably should have tried this before!

I've gone through some other threads as well as this one looking for advice and saw some posts from Pete Thomas saying he'd had good results with the basic tenor sax lig from Howarths, so I've ordered one of those. Hopefully this fixes the issue for me, because when I'm not squeaking I really enjoy the sound and response from this mouthpiece. Fingers crossed...

Do report back how you go on 🙂

I have a PPT that I use an old 2 screw that I modified by gluing two thin pieces of wood to make two reed holddown rails. Keeps pressure off the edges which I believe helps

Eventually I will go with a Silverstein lig for it. Expensive but they work well for me.

Perhaps, but the Rovners don't handle the taper on the PPT properly.

The Rovner Star (oe Evo) is what I recommend as it does fit well. Normal Rovners usually fit but as with al Rovners they must be lubricated properly to work best, and I found that they can for to a taper better of you increase the size of the hole that receives the screw (I think using a 3.5mm or 4mm drill)

Also the plan of using a shim (leather, cardboard etc.) at the front works really well for any lig that won't form to the taper.

Ha, don't remember that, must have been a loooong time ago. But if it's the one I think (ie el cheapo 2 screw) it will be fine, but if the reed is a bit thin you may need the shim.

I used both a Rovner Dark "2R" and Rovner Light "L8", both fits perfectly on the onyxite PPT I used to own.

Are you sure you Rovner isn't an ancient Rovner (double layer fabrik, diamond shaped back) instead of modern age Rovner?

I still don't like the BG Flex since they are tapered in a strange way (maybe to fit some french mouthpiece from Vandoren/Selmer which are usually more conical than the american taper of Meyer/Links.. etc etc).
On normal pieces... the screw of the BG Flex maks the top of the mouthpiece, this is odd.
But the Onyxite PPT is particularly "conical shaped" and this helps... but the material used for the BG Flex are so "cheap" compared to a generic Rovner.

I also remember I used a common two screws ligature on the PPT, the lig was equipped with a couple of spacer inside (in the front inner part of the ligature)... just few minutes of work and some hand skills...
