Right here goes! I don't know the tune very well so I sound really tentative! - I was reading through the chord symbols as I went so will have another go when I've got to know it a bit more I'm not really a ballad player - more at home with funk and rock and the Metalite mouthpiece didn't exactly help (that's my excuse and I'm sticking to it haha!) 🙂))

It`s really great to hear the music come out after the BS that was on this thread at the start . I just listened to Di and Arty.L`s cracks and am well impressed. I think it`s good how everyone just has that wee bit identity to their work. "like a signature".. . It`s a lovely number after you get to know it LOL. I`m nowhere near happy yet. but that`s the fun. getting there.

It is a lovely number! I'm nowhere near happy with mine and will attempt another one soon (I just wanted to join in ).....but I'm well impressed with everyone else's - all sounding very nice indeed!

Hey i'm testing my healing lip here after not playing due to it for a little while.Heres a quick 2nd version from me but on soprano.Its a bugger getting it peachy up the top on the theme on the little devil but i stayed true to the dots and thats the main thing.A few notes here and there sound atad pitchy but i can live with it and i'm still rather pleased with the solo and the quick outcome.

Getting redone as its crap !!!!

So was this recorded on your new Zoom?
What's your input gain setting and placement?

When I record with my H1 I go for very close mic (3-4 inches away) pointing at the G# keycup and level set to around 18, no low cut. But that's in my soundproof booth. In the house I use a Samson c03u but with similar settings.
It's a fascinating art recording the sax - I'm only just delving into it and always on the lookout for tips.

Wow. Nice tone. This piece really suits Alto. You sounded great over the Hard bit. I sensed your confidence building after you got through it, and the rendition ( for me ) improved all the way to the end.

This is such a beautiful tune to concentrate hard to get the timing, phrasing and just the blinking notes right really makes it very difficult to do it justice.

Thank you so much! mainly just followed the chord tones - I'll try to come up with something more interesting when I've worked on it more and record it again.

In answer to your questions : -

Yes the new zoom 🙂
Havent' got a clue - just pressed the record button!

I was about 5 feet away from it (in the lounge for a bit of sound absorption - too echoey in my music room). What settings are best on the Zoom? I just put it on Auto and mp3 - I'm sure I've got a lot to learn.

Also it took me ages to work out how to use audacity and put the backing track but I haven't got a clue how it works apart from that, any tips would be welcomed!!

Well, I'm a recording amateur for sure but I've had my H1 for almost 2 years now and have experimented a fair bit.

Definitely turn OFF the auto-level. It does an okay job but not for solo instruments. Because the levels will jump automatically so if you rest a bar then come back in the level won't adjust fast enough creating distortion on the first few notes.

In a nice big room I'd follow Pete Thomas' advice and place it roughly the length of your horn away. Playtest at your usual loudest and then set the input level just under peak (the little red light under the mics will flash when it's over peak and clipping/distorting) or at around -6db. This is hard to do at a distance of course!

I've found my sweet settings/placement and rarely change them now.

Davey . I`ve been playing it for the last hour and cant get over how difficult it is on Tenor to get the higher register sounding good and in tune without over the top vibrato. I`ve been sounding like a clarinet LOL. Then comes the impro and it back to sax again LOL
