Tell you what Davey, that new sax has a nicer lower end than the Tj.. Higher up they seem on a par with each other. You're a brave man to play through the pain.. Plus you extended the backing as well.. Must be a glutton for punishment..You did a really good job here despite being wounded.. Overall a great job well done..:welldone

Hey glad you liked my as ever quick version but this was quick and it did hurt.Another few days i think and i'll be belting the tones out again.Cut out that bit at the end and just kept repeating.Works fine .A rather messy end out but the clock was ticking for my Andy Sheppard meeting.Despit some negative stuff said in the week about this choice i think it stands up well here so i'm happy.

Just back from the Andy Sheppard Autograph sax meet.Not many there which was a shame.My fave player blew
amazing.WOWWWW what a sound.Guess what at the end he asked who wants to play it thenI says me but i dont want to be the 1st laughing ,well i did and it was only me that did.WOW pressure there.

Nice Attempt Davey . Particularly in light of your Injury LOL. I thought you did well in these Hard Bars 11 through to 16 and also nice imaginative Impro. and good use of the whole Horn (For those who are Lurking. This Number requires a great deal of attention regarding being in tune all over the instrument, not just the natural core .ie the mid . Almost a classical approach is needed to produce something good to hear back, both Davey and Chris have done this)

What I`m finding is that The Head is so hard to get right that if I get it perfect the impro after is sucking or Vica versa. So hats off getting it pegged so soon. I reckon I`ll probably take between 50 and 100 takes if i`m lucky LOL but i`m not going to do it in bits. It will all in one go warts N all.

I do hope Jim does offer up something this month after all, as I really love to hear the contrasts between the members playing and It`s the Music that we all have in common aint it?

Okay, I should only be posting in the Beginner's Recordings thread but since this is a version of Virgo I'll risk the ridicule! 😀

I'm using with the Aebersold Volume 33 backing track and since my solo attempts have mostly been thwarted thus far by mediocrity, it's just the head. Maybe I'll post a proper take later in the month if I get comfy enough with it...

1st thing is dont be to hard on yourself.This is sounding very nice indeed.You got the head going as it should.Nice feel and timing.All i can add is for me atad more reverb on the sax if you have the software to do it.Keep up the good work.

The whole point of this thread is not to showcase anyone playing a tune, but for everyone to just have a go at playing a ballad. There does not have to be multiple choruses of improv. Some of the tunes we have done don't allow for any improv. As for posting in the beginners section, why?? Just keep on playing a posting..🙂

Well said Chris.Lets have fun and have a laugh on the way.Just think every single note you blow your making music so enjoy it it.Getting up tight aint no fun.Just smile away and keep doing your own thing.Its not a competition of who knows/plays the better.Its us just enjoying our little BOTM thing.

Wow, thanks Davey, I really appreciate the kind words. I added a touch of reverb in MixPad but I shy away from effects mostly but I should experiment more because it can sound amazing with it added well.

Geez, the 2-3 year mark is tougher than I thought - ability + knowledge + expectations = sax angst!

All I can say I do feel I've progressed since my debut BOTM last December (what a shocker! 😛) - timing and tone-wise anyway.

Wow. Nice tone. This piece really suits Alto. You sounded great over the Hard bit. I sensed your confidence building after you got through it, and the rendition ( for me ) improved all the way to the end.

Yea it sounds great on alto for sure.Strange how some songs suit tenor and alto,some only alto and some only tenor or sop.Its just not the range thing or chord form its got to do alot also with the feel i think.

Davey . I`ve been playing it for the last hour and cant get over how difficult it is on Tenor to get the higher register sounding good and in tune without over the top vibrato. I`ve been sounding like a clarinet LOL. Then comes the impro and it back to sax again LOL

Had a listen.For me straight off you need to retune.Have you used your tuner.You need to push your mp on some more ,from the 1st note its flat.Hope this helps as i'm trying to give what i hear.When you retune it will all fall into place i feel.Try and wipe out them negative bars in your head.Try and just go with the flow.Again i will stress i'm saying what i hear and trying to give a honest opinion to help you out dude.
