I fancy a go at this - can anyone recommend me the cheapest zoom type recorder? I only have my phone 🙁

I use it (H1) regularly. The main difference between H1 and H2 is that H2 doubles as usb microphone.

The Zoom H1 with the latest firmware update also doubles as a USB mic.

Performance wise I think the main difference between the H1 and H2 is the H2 has 4 mics for 360 degree surround sound recording instead of the H1's 2 mics. Not sure if there's any difference in sound quality.

I think the microphones are the same. Never thought of the surround recording as a feature.
Now the possibility of using the H1 as a usb microphone is one more good point.

I've ordered an H1 as it's in my price range - I've just sold a Roland Bass Cube to fund it as my bass playing went out the window after 3 months because a) I was rubbish and b) the bass was too flipping heavy haha! Can't wait to try it!

I'll make an attempt at this (a 'long, studious read' in my case though!) since Wayne Shorter and the Night Dreamer album are favourites of mine. 🙂

Strangely, I'd never struck upon this tune as one to play even though it's in my RB and Aebersold collection and at my level (sort of).

I do notice that the RB version is in C major for alto sax and the Aebersold version for alto sax is in A major, however aside from a few chord and note variations here and there are the identical ie. they both start on A.
Ah, the weird world of 'official' transcribing!
I won't even bother comparing them with the wikifonia version! :mrgreen:

Hi Dubrosa, I had to tinker with the melody a little so I could play it. Thanks for the comment. I think what someone has done is use lots of accidentals on the transcription rather than use a Key sig.. It makes life interesting:shocked:. Look forward to your version..

Yeah. I`m still trying to nail bars 11 through to 16 of the head which is really "the only tricky bit" to try and make them sound sweet and in tune. I`m playing the Wiki sheet with Chris's BT which is per the Youtube clip but I won`t be doing all the glisses as I don`t like the sound of them.

I am enjoying this though ( even after having to fix the front F on my horn again) and hopefully will get on to the impro soon and perhaps will be able to post something worth listening to later in the month.
Davy. Cheers for selecting this as it offers a wee challenge and something that may never have seen the light of day otherwise. I really hope that, as this is a trickier Ballad. The folks are able to have a crack, even if they prefer to transpose the number to a more player-friendly Key or octave.

Yes, bars 11-16 are my stumbling block too - playing it last night a few times for the first time I was surprised how tricky those few bars were especially when playing along with the Aebersold track which is at a glacial tempo of 54.
It's true that the slow ones are harder and more revealing!

Or just keep it the same and do your best with your version and its as simples as that.
If you keep doing nursery rhymes in 5 years time you will still be doing them.Whats the point in that when you could be doing Giant Steps !!!!!!!!

Without trying to sound negative these ballads are just to slow and dare I say it, boring for my taste, if it has to be jazz then why not some standards like Take 5, little suede shoes, Caravan, Doxy that kind of thing...or bluesy, or old-school Jamaican stuff.

Thats why its called Ballad of the month !!!!!!!!! Why dont you just post these yourself in your own threads ??? no 1 said it had to be jazz also.Theres been some modern ballads in there.If its boring then dont post in BOTM.Sorry if i sound negative well its your reply.Its a challenge and fun and most enjoy it.A ballad seems to scare alot of people as its slow.Thats when the player has to really work hard to sound nice.You have to crawl before you run.
