It’s probably French or Italian. 1900 - 1915 and high pitched. It’s a “Class B” or Class C” horn. This is just basic beginner level keywork. No Sharps or flats key options. Probably dual octave touches too.

metal touches...no bis key but keyed up to high F...backdoor G# cup, no low Bb.

Not worth anything really, hard to decipher the engraving. Date as noted above

Consider the amount of servicing needed, also. Most would stay away from this one...

OP, if you are thinking of this for an actual playable saxophone, forget it. If you want an interesting wall-hanger, go for it.

Helpful hints to all:

If you find an "old" saxophone and you can't tell what the name is, or when you look it up on the internet there's nothing - it is NOT a previously unknown fabulous instrument. If the name is just one or two letters away from a famous name - "Helmer", "Busfet", etc. - NO, it's not a rare engraving mistake. If all the saxophone retailers are selling ones like it for $3000 and this one's price is $300, NO, it's not the deal of a lifetime.

Castanheira successor to Pereira, Porto-Portugal. Before or around 1900 ?
"Pereira & Castanheira"
"Porto-Lyre-Lisboa"
Musical instruments of Pereira are already mentioned in 1863 as participant in the 1865 international exposition in Porto.

Thanks Woodpad, and I know that link.

We can read this:
Regarding the "Custodio Cardos Pereira & Cia steam-powered musical instrument factory" and the "Castanheira & C." company in Porto, both were managed by Marques Teixeira in the 20th century.

The saxophone model is old, but it would be surprising if it dated from the 1865 period.
The public domain for the Sax patent is after.
This is the first time I have encountered this stamp on a saxophone, I am familiar with the more recent stamps: Castanheira & Ca SUCes of C.C. Pereira Porto-Lyre.
The number of saxophones that appear on the net is very limited and I searched at Lecomte and found nothing similar.

Very interesting history. Thanks for taking the time to research and share.

Similar threads... or are they? Maybe not but they could be worth reading anyway 😀
