Playing the saxophone One of those days.

I'd say I'm generally a fairly consistent player (been playing for 26 years). Some days better than others but reasonably consistent all the same. However, I did a couple of hours on tenor today and was bloody awful. My fingers felt clumsy, my ears weren't accurate and even relatively easy tunes (Cherokee) were a struggle. Nothing even remotely creative worked out, my sound was pants and I generally wound up getting frustrated and despondent.

On the plus side...no gig tonight and tomorrow's another day.

Sometimes I wish I'd followed another path in life.

I can empathise GJ77.... I play the sax for pleasure and have no issues in the way that you describe but with my art and drawing I sometimes have a day which ends with me wondering why I didn't go down a different academic path and cussing because of the wasted hours of something not looking how I want it to or the "magic" not being there. Usually when that happens it's because of an underlying issue in my life which is causing me stress or sadness.... Art and my emotions being interlinked.

I'm hoping it's just tiredness.

You should show us all some of your art, Alice. I for one would be interested.
Yes, tiredness really does affect creativity.
That's very kind of you 🙂
I've just finished and sent off a portrait to a lady in America and am ready to embark on a new project which I've had in mind for ages but not started yet which is Jazz and Blues musicians and portraits of Sax players in particular, famous or otherwise.

It was weird...my ears have never felt so disconnected from the rest of me. I'm turning 40 next year, has the long, slow decline begun already?
Oh heavens - we all have days when things don't seem to work and even the simplest of things goes wrong. There'd better be hope otherwise at 56 I'm toast 😱

When I go 2 or more days without playing or practicing the next playing experience is never a positive one. I seem to lose my touch or edge or whatever you call it. It takes playing a few days for "it" to come back, whatever "it" is. Since I've never been a consistent practicer, I've gotten quite used to the routine.

Please miss, me miss, yes miss, please miss 😉

Well if your ears are disconnected to you... You know what you have to do, don't you? The knee bones connected to the thigh bone, the thigh bones connected to the hip bone the hip bones connected to the - and so on until you get to your ears 🙂 The Doctor is in, that'll be 5 cents please.
