Christmas came early!

If we had a poll of "Who did more for British Jazz, Humph or TomMapfumo?'", I'm afraid TomMapfumo might end up second.
Humph was also very humorous

Still not got that sense of humor completely dry

Here's to all that place enthusiasm above tradition - otherwise we'd all still be listening to Kenny Ball, Acker Bilk and Humphrey Lyttleton 😛

Humph originally played in a George Webb band with a twin cornet/trumpet lead, just like Loius when he started. He then experimented with, amongst other things, Latin-American rhythm section, saxophones of various types, mainstream and various sizes of band. He also played all types of jazz on his radio shows and was still experimenting on his last gig.

Hear! Hear!
I'm with you OG.
Correct me if I'm wrong but I believe traditional New Orleans Jazz has been around a lot longer than other newer forms of the musical art form widely known as 'Jazz'. Trad has it's place in the Jazz theatre as much as any other. Admittedly, Ball and Bilk were not the best exponents of it, but they did a damn fine job IMHO.
Anyway, we all have to make a living!!

Bit dodgy these codes. You'll have the anti terrorist squad round.
Maybe I shouldn't have said that :S
Oh well, if you don't hear from me again............... 🙁

The only point being made by my throwaway comment in response to Tony opening his sax before Christmas was that if we didn't do things different sometimes we would not make any progress. On a personal level none of the three musicians, in the example given, has inspired me to listen to Jazz. On the other hand many HAVE done so (Dizzy Gillespie, Miles Davis, Wayne Shorter, Jan Garbarek, Keith Jarratt, Kenny Wheeler, Chet Baker, Andy Sheppard and many others). I am simply glad that Jazz is not stuck on a Trad theme, and that there is a real choice for all. It was just a casual comment, tho' obviously playful & provocative to some.

Kind regards

as the late Jelly Roll Morton was once heard to say 😉

Tony, how many hours left before you reach that 10,000 target?

Kind regards

I found the Sax first at school, then found, beer, girls, work, family, cigs, concerts, motorcycles, and forgot about the sax, now I'm picking it up again, although I'm the right side of 40 (for a few more months at least) I'm not sure if that classes me as a late bloomer or not 🙂

I can honestly say I've probably got at least 9,500 hours left to go, and as mentioned in another post, my biggest issue is finding a teacher that can fit with my bizarre work schedule.
