I got an email from the cafe informing me that the first of the long awaited PPT Alto mpc's was now available, as I have been hoping for the chance to have an alto PPT for a long time I was straight on the link to forum sales area and gladly paid my dues, I opted for the free delivery "having the utmost confidence in our postal system " I think that was on Monday morning, and low and behold there has just been a knock on the door, it was the posty delivering my new PPT.
It was very well packaged in a padded envelope then in a strong cardboard tube which held the mpc and a nice bag to carry it in.
I have rooted out a rovner lig took the Rico Jazz Select 3m off my usual mpc,a Selmer SA80 that I seem to have been tied to for the last few years, installed them on the lovely PPT and the PPT on my trusty 62 and gave it a blow.
Well it's a lovely easy blow with a tonal character of its own with a lot more depth than the SA80 and played easily from the very top F# to the bottom Bb,now I'm certainly no expert but it noticeably improved the depth of tone in the high notes, something that I always thought had been very thin before, and really this continued all the way down and I didn't notice any thing missing in its performance at all.
I'm going to enjoy getting to know this little beauty better I don't need anything else for Christmas now

Thanks Pete it a cracker ......John

Really starting to enjoy my tenor PPT, looks like I may now have to save my pennies for 3 more rahther than 2.

@Pete Thomas, are you aware that the PPT web page still says "There are currently no plans for an alto mouthpiece"?

vaguely 🙂

I am not advertising them anywhere but here for members at the moment as it could be a while until I can get enough stock.

John, did you go for the 5 or 6 opening? And what tip was your S80, to compare?

What has anyone else ordered? See my post here: http://cafesaxophone.com/threads/ppt-alto-on-the-horizon.14147/page-3#post-190586 and Pete's reply.
Still thinking 2.1mm on the 6** may be too much from my Yam 6CM's 1.9mm?

When reviewing, once yours has arrived, it would be useful to know current preferred MP and opening, plus what PPT tip you went for, and how it compares. Thanks!

Still pondering... buying new is a new thing for me, especially when it's the price of a horn!
However, the early Babbitt STM from two weeks ago should fetch the same money, and that came with a sax. So it would be a good "swap" perhaps. Plus... it's Christmas and I can't think of anything else!

I went for the 5,didn't want to try anything too wide but I don't really understand all this number marking on mpc's.
My SA80 I have no idea what no it is,it's illegible and I can't be bothered measuring it,
I am thinking of trying a harder reed on the PPT But only experimenting at the moment

John, I went for the 5 as well. Had to go out though, so missed the delivery.
At least I hope that's what the Royal Mail card is for!
Hopefully my other half can pick it up tomorrow.
Thanks for your review. I have been using a PPT on my tenor for the last 3 years and love it!

I have never bought any expensive mpc's before, only quite cheap ones such as a shark bite,2 otto link TONE EDGE hr a 5* and a 6,I think they were about £35 each, the statutory yam 4c and the ones that I have acquired with sax purchases have been very old and unplayable, except for my SA80 which came with the KOOKABURRA, and has been my go to mpc ever since.I once bought an OTTO LINK SUPER TONEMASTER 8* METAL in a moment of madness for £85 which I immediately found I couldn't blow, I still have it and have recently found I now have the chops to blow it but can't say it does anything for me.
Looking forward to experimenting with the PPT and I'm off to give it a blow now

Similar threads... or are they? Maybe not but they could be worth reading anyway 😀
