BOTM BOTM JAN 2019 - Goodbye Pork Pie Hat

I have created revised notes and backing track based on the version that @rhysonsax found.

The main difference is that the backing chords are a lot simpler during the improvisation section, which makes it a bit easier.

The structure is:
4-bar intro
Melody once
Improv twice
Melody one last time
2-bar ending

Concert F minor, 60bpm.

Internet can be a real minefield! I guess that's very clever. Mixmatching titles that lead you to believe it's one thing that it's not. Smells like a scam to me.
I thought it was probably a CD he made very late on at the request of the record company, I did think the breathy bit at the beginning was unusual. he's not someone I really listen to but it was listening with my eyes and not my ears

A little story:
This version is in Bb.
In the 20th century a big band I was playing with had a concert with Bley and Swallow, and we played this very arrangement.
During a lunch at the local pizzeria, Mrs Bley was sitting in front of me, and I innocently asked why she arranged that in Bb.

"Isn't that the original key?"
"Mingus did it in Eb or E"
"Shame on me! I did it wrong!" she seriously said
I felt guilty, but Mr Swallow immediately told me
"Don't worry, she's like that"

This version was due to be on Hal Wilner's "Weird Nightmare" collection, but never made it

I still can't fathom how the chords fit the backing track, try as I might. I've tried playing tonic notes, but simply can't get anything to chime or rhyme

A click intro would help identify exactly where the first chord starts and I would listen and learn from there, But at the mo I can't even pin down the start of the first bar! Very frustrating to have this great resource for a really interesting track without being able to get even a toehold!

I need my ears cleaned out

Why don't you try playing along with the original version, when I hopefully get some time I would like to try playing alongside the Dave Holland recording
