Playing the saxophone Are Your Ears Painted On? Let's See.

i've found the tests quite confusing. I thought I had done them all but I knew I hadn;t got it when I seemed to be being asked to give my sex, age, etc after each of the four. Odd.And I came right down at the bottom with 40%....not pleased. Then I did the pitch one on it's own and got 80.6%. Being pleased with that , I'd like to try again but can't fathom quite what to do.
Also I don't understand the visualisation because the initial 2 squares, one red one black, are so very low on information [ as in 'information theory' ] and so much less complex than the really great set of noises and notes and sounds used in the tests. Odd.
Help would be very much appreciated!

I tried the tests in the early hours of yesterday morning, and after a large G&T, so wasn't too surprised that I found them less than user-friendly, but more so that I am apparently cr@p at pitch identification and rhythm, but moderately good at 'visualisation' !!
I sort-of instinctively 'got' that the phrases could be represented as some of the groups of symbols, although some defeated me.

I resolve to have another go when I am rested and sober 😀

I did some similar tests a while ago , on, I think, the BBC website ... the results were considerably more encouraging and quite different from these!
(I'll try to find the URL)
Later.... I found the test "How Musical are You?" here: https://www.bbc.co.uk/labuk/experiments/musicality/
But, sadly, the test is no longer available to try, although you can read a bit about it.
The interesting thing about my results was that, in summary, they suggest I have a very good musical ear and a good memory for a tune and rhythm, but that music doesn't play a very important part in my life.
I had always thought the first to be true, and, on reflection, realise that the last is, too. I don't listen to music nearly as often as many people do, and it doesn't 'move' me all that much!
(Probably why I don't practise enough!)

I got down to .75 with one error, then I had difficulty from there. That came from playing guitar and learning the extreme nuances of microbending. The test is fine other than poor audio quality. You just have to sink in to how the pitch feels and you'll tell the difference.

I think the test is made slightly more difficult because the next tones play immediately when you answer the previous question. It kind of leaves the "feel" of the 2nd tone of the previous question in your ear, then I automatically start considering whether the first tone was sharp or flat compared to the previous question, and forget what the second tone sounded like in relation to the first one.

Edit: I didn't notice that you can actually play the tones again by pressing spacebar, or the button in the middle. :w00t:

Knowing that now, I tried again, and got down to 0.3 Hz.

500 Hz I can differentiate tones 1.8 Hz apart. What I certainly noticed was when the second pitch was lower it, I found it significantly easier...
Will try some of the other tests for fun!
