Misc Reviews Yamaha YDS-150 Wind Synth

Yes, I am trying different angles, I found that if the grip becomes too vertical you lose weight on the thumb of the octave shift key and this brings some difficulties when playing.
As soon as I fix the drawings I'll put them on thinginverse.
If you have specific requests on the design please let me know, I can try to change it

I had thought about it too, but apart from the really high price, you would always be tied to playing with a midi expander attached or with a pc.
The EMEO also remains an electronic Sax and, however sophisticated, the "Respiro" plugin will not be as good as a real sax.
In my opinion Yamaha produced a good compromise

My adventure in the wonderful world of music continues..

Like I wrote before I had some problems to get sound from YDS-150 so I decided to return YDS-150 back to the dealer. They had a similar instrument in their stock and after testing it they found that they have a similar problem. The dealer took contact to Yamaha and Yamaha's answer was that I have to download YDS Controller app to my iPhone and set fingering. That sounds very strange.

I downloaded the app already when I got the instrument. The app worked perfectly when I tuned breath pressure resistance, breath response etc. But I haven't any clue that I have to set fingerings before the first playing. I'm assuming that there are basic fingerings in the instrument like factory default and if I want custom the fingerings I can do it with the app later.

There isn't in the user guide that the fingering settings must set before the first playing as far.

So my question to you dear YDS players: Were the basic fingerings ready on your instrument or did you have to customize them before the first play?

Out of the box it have a classic Sax fingering
Can be played without any custom setting
What is your problem ?
I can tell you that the keys seem very light and one tends to press them a little, instead they must be pressed harder than expected because as soon as you release the pressure immediately changes note

Yes, I reread what you wrote.
Could it be what I told you before, did you notice how hard you press the keys?
If you push a little harder, does the note come out?
When the key reaches the bottom, it is enough to lightly make a little pressure to stop the sound of the note, we must be particularly careful.

Another quick note in passing, and this is true of any electronic instrument you connect to a DAW via USB:
If you record in short segments, as I sometimes do, there won't be the problem of trying to make sure the mic position is the same. The sound and volume of an electronic instrument connected by wire to a computer doesn't vary. While this fact is obvious, the idea that you can record small parts without needing to calibrate the sound didn't occur to me until I needed to do it.

In the never-ending saga, I'd also like to report that I feel practicing is valid on this instrument, especially if you improvise. I think this is because it won't help much with exercises because, yes, have I said this before? It's not a saxophone. As others have said, it won't do breath control of intonation. BUT, for improvising, composing, and ideas, it's great. No one hears you trying out crazy stuff, but you. And as you try new things, you hear it and so familiarize yourself with your new stuff. Works for me.

Similar threads... or are they? Maybe not but they could be worth reading anyway 😀
