Heard this for first time, decades late, and must learn to play it

Jimmy Page's oeuvre as horn section

The genesis of Zappa playing Stairway To Heaven was due to the alto player Paul Carmen knowing how to play Jimmy Page's guitar solo note for note, teaching the horn section how to play it and then convincing Frank to do a "reggae" version of Stairway...Paul Carmen plays an amazing soprano solo on the album but I forgot which track...Inca Roads? Andy? the horn section on the album includes the Fowler Brothers on trumpet and trombone and the great Albert Wing on tenor sax...another album to check out is "Broadway The Hard Way"...

What a curious one. I find it quite disrespectful, but I was a big Led Zeppelin fan so.. I loved Shut Up And Play Yer Guitar etc, and Sheik Yerbouti

Interestingly, my new and current band is bilingual (first time I have really been in a band situation of this nature). Given we are in the Southwest and very much in Mexico border territory, we are finding the audience reactions to be more enthusiastic when we also do popular (this-side-of-pond) Spanish-language tunes, So we have been exploring/playing around with a lot of this sorta stuff:

He is a new name to me, i have looked him up on YouTube, it's all been a bit cheesy so far, for my taste anyway
Try El Pampero. I bought the lp back in about '73 - 'twas a big influence on my notion of what a tenor sax should sound like.

Right ~ that is what was so interesting about the Abdullah Ibrahim group....he was just playing straight up and a bit 'out' there...no saccharine-y stuff which unfortunately he did a bit too much of later in his carreer....

I'm a big Led Zep fan with albums on vinyl, CD, a quaint audio artifact called cassette tapes, and "The Song Remains The Same" on VHS tape (I think I also had the T-shirt and lithograph print poster as well and rare box set of 7" singles) and I didn't find it disrespectful. A lot of Zappa's stuff is tongue firmly planted in cheek , and obviously utilizing the skills of his great and underrated musicians to play a classic 1970s rock cover that isn't a Xerox copy. There is plenty of cover versions of "Stairway To Heaven" out there in the big wide world including a version done by an Ocker kiddie fiddler with a wobble board and another version done by a diminutive blond woman with large mammalian protuberances.:w00t:

I have a feeling Page and Plant weren't too concerned when the royalty payments came flooding in...

Actually Joshua Redman does a version of "The Ocean" on one of his more recent albums...

Yes, I feel like I'm a bit odd feeling that way. I think it's the guitar interjections of Zappa that don't sit with me. The singing is great!
