biggest problem with getting a good recording his having a microphone that actually records the saxophone well.

I'd recommend downloading audacity. It's free and actually very good.

To video you could do it with a web cam or with a video camera. You then need to upload the video onto your computers hard drive and make sure it;s in a compatible format.
You then need to register with you tube and use the upload video feature to put them on the website. They are normally up within 24 hours and able to view by anybody if you give them the URL to your own little bit of web space they allocate you.

If you've only got a cheap microphone, I'd recommend shoving it right down the bell. I've got the best results from this with a cheap microphone.

With a good microphone I'd have it about 1-2 feet away and pointing towards the middle of the sax.
For a bigger instrument put it further away.

Thank you Lee hope you are well friend. Ye do all mics have the same jak or will i need a special one to plug into my computer thanks Tom

most mics use what's called an XLR jack, both in and out.

I would think unless you have a very fancy audio port that you will need an adaptor. You're like to have a 'small' jack socket (I forget the name), and that's if you have one at all!

You can get XLR to jack cables which are also fine.

Thinking about it, I have a sure 12A that is XLR to jack cable and a gold plated jack to small jack adapter in my garage.
I'm going to give it a crack and see if it works ok and whatnot. If it does and you want it, I can do some research and come up with a price.

You wouldn't need the audio interface then or anything else really.

i cant believe you would say that

i would substitute the word "fine" for "just about acceptable in an emergency and if youve got enough gain available to run a mircophone level signal into a line level input"

I was under the impression Linky was talking about a mic input with a jack socket, not a line input.

In which case an XLR (female) to jack (male) would be OK. Although I'm not so sure what happens if its a card with stereo jack mic input.

that is true

sorry for ranting but i get so frustrated with people thinking they can stick any mic, instrument, line or speaker level output into any old input and having to set the gain in a ridiculous position that gives no control (or thinking instrument cable makes good speaker cable) - especially when trying to share rig with other bands - i at least wanted a proviso stuck on cannon-to-jack as a solution.

but i have bodged mono and stereo jucks into eack other plenty of times - results are somewhat unpredictable

in fact ive done many bodgy things you shouldnt really do and had acceptable (or at least interesting) results, but i wouldnt be recommending them to anyone whos looking for a "good" sound

Getting back to the point, what is not likely to be much good is a micamp you get on a cheapo PC soundcard, which is why most people for basic home recording get something a bit better than the standard card you get with a PC, even if it does have a mic input.

Similar threads... or are they? Maybe not but they could be worth reading anyway 😀
