Many thanks to Neil Sharpe for asking me to be a part of the new book which is now for sale on Amazon;

Forbidden. Banned. Segregated. Jailed. Shot. Burned.
Even investigated by a Psychiatric Board!
But these musicians never backed down.

“Rock and roll is not a guitar, it’s not long hair—that’s not rock and roll. It ain’t about an instrument, or this or that. The blues is the start of it all. You add some rhythm to that blues and you have all kind of people that’s doing rock and roll. And that develops into hip-hop. All of it is a spirit—the spirit of coming outside of the box. -Ice Cube

Damn! You guys have done some homework.
Absolutely fascinating social and musical history - Oh yeah, and some sax thrown in.
Congratulations.
An observation - Page 99 Production sound
“Link Wray jamming a pencil through the amplifier’s cone”. I was told by a die-cast blues guitarist that back in the day Clapton used his mother’s hat pin to make holes in his amp cone to produce distortion, and to achieve over-drive turned up to 10 and laid if face down on the stage!

For those of you who don’t have a copy of John‘s book. Get one! Always some interesting snippet about somebody in the history of music. For example. Seals & Croft. Popular duet with some hits in the 70s. It was Jimmy Seals on saxophone who took Chuck Rios spot in the “Champs”. If you don’t know Chuck Rios or the Champs and have played the “Tequila” song, Well you just learned a bit of sax history.
All thanks to John and years of compiling the archive.

Thank you sir! :clapping:

We started our research in 2003 and it has been an adventure for sure. We have been in contact with many of the players around the globe and found out a lot about the hits that they played on. A lot of history, photos, bios and personal stories, all with permission to publish.

For many of us a Top 40 hit featuring a sax solo was what inspired us to play the sax. For others it may have been a jazz recording, swing band or classical artists.

Many of the excellent musicians on Top 40 hits never received credit on the LP's and CD's until the 70's/80's so it was long overdue.

If you know of a UK Top 40 hit that we missed which featured a sax solo let us know :sax:

I totally agree with your suggestion. Several people have mentioned adding a list of players who have played on records that never charted. And we have had requests to add records that feature an excellent solo but did make the Top 40. I guess the question is where do we stop?

The PDF file is 22.6 MB so my other concern is adding too much info that the file can't be sent via email.
I am sure someone knows how to email a file that exceeds the limit but so far it is working :clapping:

Stop ? I hope the music never stops.

Who said it’s required to be part of the same files / book ?
Make a “Special Addition” Pun intended.

Another I didn’t see.
Marty Jourard who is a member here had a great solo on The Motels “Only The Lonely” hit.
