SOTM SOTM March 2021- Turn The Page

I bought a backing track from Karaoke-Version that has individual audio tracks which you can pan, amplify, mute etc. to make the mix you want. Then I replaced the saxophone in the mix with me on alto and the vocal with me on tenor.

Turn The Page - Rhys Alto & Tenor V1.mp3 - Box

The recorded tracks are pretty good, but the drummer gets a bit over-enthusiastic, so it would either clip or sound quiet in spots.

Don't tempt me 😎
OK I won’t tempt you. But I know you can’t resist your saxello>:)
Not quite where I want it to be but it's a start:
turn the page-tenor.mp3

I may do the c-sop later, that'll be way easier than a tenor
Oh the challenges of playing tenor. That’s one heck of a start. I assume you had this done yesterday. That makes it two days short of a week. That’s a lot of practice to get this one posted. Hope you’re enjoying the challenge. Now about that C sop version :optimistic:

I had the idea for this Friday morning on my Pyrenees run but then Jazz is All suckered me into the Clarion register and yesterday I had to kick two former state champion's asses in disc golf 😎

The c-sop is going to be sooo much easier, I don't have to transpose it and can just play it the way I hear it!

There's more to this little project than just recording a song. Last evening I was playing a bass part on my bari and discovered that it plays sharp in the lower registers but in pitch higher up the scale. Tried using a #2 and #2.5 reed, also adjusting the Yamaha 5c mp a bit but found that changing my embouchure was the real answer. Learning technique here!
I also jumped on ebay and bought a vintage hard rubber George M. Bundy 3 bari mp with a .090 opening. Can't hurt to have another mp to try. The Bundy is a bit longer.

Also, a 1941 C.G.Conn bass clarinet I found on ebay is arriving today.:w00t:

When in doubt, it's always the embouchure

Odd choice! I've been singing and playing this song on guitar for 35 years, with reference to the Jon English version, I've never much liked the Bob Segar version, he just doesn't put any feeling into it. I've never thought of the melody being sung by a saxophone though! I'll give it a go, is it permissible to include vocals?
How’s the progress coming along? Maybe you can share your challenges and difficulties.

I've only made an introduction post since I joined a year ago (find me someone whose life hasn't been flipped upside down this last year 😳) and I aim to be more active going forward. So I've decided to jump straight in at the deep end and have a crack at this.

I can't seem to get the soundcloud thing to work, not quite sure what it's taking issue with 🙁
Only the second link worked for me also. Wow that’s one heck of a mix. The song definitely works well on baritone. I like the way you added the original Mr. Alto Reed part. We did not include that in the sheet music. Did you pick it up from my post reference?
Obviously you’ve been practicing since your last post !
