Any info available about the MacSax 8 tenor made in Houli, Taiwan? This comes from 10-15 years ago, I think, and was originally sold at Sam Ash music stores.

Nothing very specific - but the horn has some features that I've seen on other store-branded horns whose origins I'm aware of.
In terms of quality I'd put them at the mid to high end of the Taiwanese output. If memory serves such horns retailed around the £2k mark. A decent bit of kit.

If I recall, these are the same instruments that Phil Barone sourced for his line. Phil and MacSax were involved for a bit, then they went their separate ways. I have a Barone tenor, and have been playing it exclusively for the last several months. Excellent instruments.

Similar threads... or are they? Maybe not but they could be worth reading anyway 😀
