I know what a fermata means - hold note longer than normal at the player's discretion. The usual symbol is:
OIP-3635101991.webp

Reading @Pete Thomas Tone Control Exercises on TTS, I noticed this symbol:
Unknown.webp

Is this a stylised fermata or does it have another meaning?
Thank you.

Yes. Somewhere in the intro I say what it is and means. It goes with the handwritten font, but the latest edition has a more normal font

Yep, just a fermata with a different font. Now which font is the question... Finale Jazz Font? Broadway Copyist? Golden Age? Font-heads must know!

A real font head would already know!

(Yeah, I’m trashing talking on a subject I know nothing about. I actually think it’s pretty cool. My grad advisor was a font head too. He seemed easily distracted by a serif.)

I think it means "sing like The Beatles would"
😎

Good question. I like basic theory .... .I'm not a good reader and first time I saw the "fermata" symbol I was told just to keep my head up, eyes and ears opened. The bandleader, singer, guitarist ..... is cutting of the song. Here is the "fermata" used as the last tone of the outro.

Similar threads... or are they? Maybe not but they could be worth reading anyway 😀
