Another Walstein Tenor Owner

Yes, lots of failed Sax players :O some people can't handle anything where they can't see their fingers 😉

True, true - but on guitar you can sing AND play at the same time - turn it up and (not so often) turn it down with ease. You can also play from the same music as everyone else without transposing. (Anyone got a C-Melody sax for sale??)

>:)

Sing!! that's the best reason to take up playing wind instruments

Have you heard electric guitar players singing 😱, That is why them play them so loud

It's arrived :w00t: :w00t: :w00t: :w00t:

Perfect condition, absolutely "As New" not a mark on it, good case good stand and a harness as well as a neck strap

It doesn't have the Bauhaus mark on it, this being a few months old

Looking at the cork and MP, I don't think it's had much playing, if at all

Not Kean on the plastic touch-pads :S

GOSH it's BIG! and heavy
No wonder Sharon has been finding it a touch hard to handle

Had a very quick blow and it sounds good, will know more as I get in to it but feels like it has a very smooth action and lower Bb is easy to reach (more so than my Jupiter) and sounds great

Very happy bunny :w00t:

Thanks Tommy and OG

First impessions on blowing

It's got the Yam4 Mp which is very easy to blow with all the reeds I have here RJS 2M /2H, La Vos MS, Marca Jazz 2,

The Marca I like the best after a very short blow on each, the others all have a lot of re-verb but that's likely to be me, time will tell

Had a go with a Gonzalez, found that hard to blow but nice sound when it did, think I'll put that away for awhile

If I can blow this and get a nice sound having not really had a go on a Tenor before, I am sure others will like it with the great price

Early days for sure but I love it already

😛

Oh I'm glad it's not just puny old me then 😛 It is a handful isn't it. But I found the keys to be easily reached which really surprised me. I'm really pleased for you Smiffy, eBay can be a gamble and it's great when it pays off.

I am a bit miffed though that you can play the low Bb so easily 😡 .

Of course it's arrived on the perfect day because you've got all weekend to muck about on it. I want to play mine all the time and when I'm not playing it I'm thinking about playing it - how sad is that

Enjoy every minute.

Sharon

Thanks Sharon, I was lucky with ebay this time, I have had worse luck on other things

Now I have it in my hands, I would have been just as happy if I have paid the full price new, I'm no pro and never will be but this will do me just fine I am sure

I find the harness really helps, far better than the neck-strap, I may get one for my Alto now

The low Bb, hit and miss but it's really nice when you hit it, you will get there 😉

Gary,
You played my ST-8 alright with a 105 'piece and the only real remarks you made were that it was heavier and that alto keys don't fit so well on tenor.
You were doing fine and you'll soon be attending your jam with the tenor. Now have faith in your musicianship and ability or I'll come round and give you a right slapping. >:)

*He is far more accomplished than he lets on. Come on everyone let's bully him into believing it.*

🙂

Funny enough I was thinking about your 8 in comparison this afternoon

They are about the same in size and weight

I am surprised that, apart from the size/weight, I don't really find a problem in playing it, it "fits" almost better than the Alto

I don't see that I have had to change my embouchure much if at all, maybe that's the easy blow of the mouthpiece along with the sax

I am sort of shocked at it's ease (for me anyway)
as for playing it well, that's a different matter and may never happen

Well I have had a bit more of a blow this morning, trying to tune it on the MP, it does look like the lower reg is out from C down, everything else up is pretty good. could be my turner needs new batteries

Will see how it goes over the weekend (it could just be me) then if no better, will pop it down to Griff if he is about in Croydon

Turns out my tuner is knackered, doesn't like low notes from either Sax or a Cello or Violin, so likely to be out with the rest

Have to get a new one and start again

* I love this Sax 🙂 *

Good evening Sir, how you doing, Did your Mp arrive

DW 3/1
Had a look at that and also this

The Korg CA30 tuner

"is ideal for tuning even low-register notes
containing numerous overtones that are often difficult to tune."

Thoughts please

Hi Smiffy!

No sign of my Rico Royal Graftonite Soprano Sax Mouthpiece B7 yet. Will think about Korg tuner in the morning. I know Denis and he is a top guy. I am also happy to buy British but will have a look.

Just back from seeing Davis/LSO in Swansea - performed a new work by Welsh composer Karl Jenkins - got a signed copy of said work, which was premiered tonight. Good concert, including Lark Ascending and Enigma Variations by Ted & Ralph.

Sleep well.
Tom

Hi, have put the tuner away today, no point if it's off

Must say the sound of this sax is really nice to my ears

lower B and Bb is a bit fluttery not holding it very well, Guess that's me

Getting use to the size and weight is another thing after my alto

The harness helps but don't think the one I have would be much use to a girlie if she is "well built" may give here more bumps that she wants 🙂

Defiantly have to hold the Sax across and to the side, which means moving the neck and MP off line

Edit, and it chucks you playing of the alto right out the window if you try to switch over :erm:

When my tuner broke a couple of months ago I decided not to get another. Instead I am trying to train my ears by using a tuning cd (not as easy as I thought but I'm going to carry on with it) , the tuning note on the metronome, and listening closely to the playalong cds.
Up to now I have discovered that I play B (with the octave key )a bit sharp so I am addressing that.

I had violin lessons at school for 5 years and never learned to tune because the teacher always did it. I was never taught to use my ears.
Don't want to get like that again.

Defiantly have to hold the Sax across and to the side, which means moving the neck and MP off line

The way I do it Smiffy is leave the neck and m/piece slightly loose, position the sax comfortably at the side and then turn the neck so it lines up with mouth and turn the m/piece so it is horizontal, then tighten the neck pinch screw.

If you look at the sax on its stand then, as you say, then enck is not in line and the m/piece is no longer horizontal.

I only use a neck strap so don't know if a harness hampers this process.
