I've just bought a tenor from eBay, a Corton Amati. I like them, they play well and are good value. I'm away from home, up in Yorkshire this week, but I'll collect it on Sunday. The seller lives quite close to me, so nice and convenient.

Anyway, nerd that I am, for years I've kept a spreadsheet of all the saxes I've owned. Lots have come and gone over the years, although I usually have about a dozen at any one time. Anyway, this Amati takes me over a momentous threshold. It's the hundredth sax I've owned. Good job I haven't kept them all, or I wouldn't be able to move for the things.

So; out of the hundred horns;.the dozen you have at any given time . If you could only keep one ? I have two tenors ; one half decent but too old. One old stencil that blows good. An honest question with no side. Why so many? Surely out of all one hundred there must have been at least one or two that were unreal. As a player , that one horn would nail it. Best; ade

Thanks to Trimmy; I have the loan of a real nice Conn alto. I wanted to let him have it back. The mpc was a number one I think. Trimmy turned up today with an alto link 8 and a beautiful Beechler.I mean really nice, also an 8. Trimmy has been on the Cafe a long time .A more genuine guy you will not meet. It is a pleasure to know the Scouse family Trim . Good one Kev. ade

@jonf I can understand the buying, admire your pocket depth and understanding wife.

But how can you bring yourself to sell them The three I've sold have been like a divorce each time. And there's one I'd really like to marry again, despite my current polygamous state.

Kev, it's all about compartmentalisation. There are some which really mean a lot to me, which will never, ever be sold. My first ever sax, even though it's not that good, the first one I bought with my own money, my T992 'sax for life' and my fabulous, battered, £80, Griff'd Yanagisawa alto. Maybe one or two others. The others are, to a greater or lesser extent, just interesting. As well as having owned 100 saxes, I think I've sold on 86, maybe 87, I'll have to check when I'm home. Same goes for mouthpieces too.

It's all been pretty self financing, so I haven't needed deep pockets, and the lovely Mrs F tolerates it, as I tolerate her shoe/frock habit. The key to a successful marriage (20 years next anniversary).

Now you are making sorry I sold mine, had to though hubby wasn't that understanding, only got the alto because I couldn't play sop with tennis elbow.
Perhaps you spend too much time in the café instead of looking for your next horn!

How 'bout another 62? The YAS are great too! >:)

Far too much time in the café 🙂

I'd have a Sequoia sop if I thought I would get away with it but I couldn't part with my 62 🙂
