Hi everyone.
I'm in the market for buying a Soprano to travel with, never having played one (I have a beautifull old Conn alto, which I have travelled with in the past & am looking for something smaller and always loved the sound of Sopranos) Budget wise I like the older saxes, although have been told to stay away from the oldies & to go for an older Yamaha or Yanagasawa. I had a good look at a King Vintage Soprano on Ebay which recently sold for $455 US (without a mouthpeice and in good condition but in need of some maintenace) Looked great, but I want one that sounds great!
Any difference in sound between Straight and curved Soprano's? I perfer and want that pure slightly raspy sound, although I suppose this also comes from the reed mouthpeice combination & what's in your head, ie bones & embrouchure etc. I have been using the Hahn reeds #2, which I find brilliant and super easy care, using the same one for 6 years now!!!.
I have a couple of local repair men, keeping an eye out for me.
Any thoughts on these matters gratefully received 🙂
