Saxophonic Ladies

We've mentioned Candy Dulfer a few times, so I thought I'd add another luscious lady blond, easy on the eyes and ears, to the list. On tour and on record with Rod Stewart over the last few years, on tenor, replaced Baron Raymonde (no mean feat). Saw her on the box a few times and figured I needed to know who it was, purely out of professional interest.

Rieckermann is a good shout Spike. I've heard her play on Stewarts "songbook" albums.

Yeh they're really good - seem em at a sax day or two. Theres also a Yorkshire who are very good, slightly smaller mind, but still a huge sound. Come to think of it The sax day at RNCM in Manchester is coming up - an awsome day, tickets to that wouldnt be a bad idea for your birthday, lots of workshops, trade stands, and a massed sax choir with every one playing together >:)

I hope to be going - anyone else planning a trip? It be good to meet a few of you lovely peeps off here. Oli

Yeh that stuff is real wierd at times - she's part of the F-ire collective. German born, came here without having played sax till she was 19 picked p and began to play, and went to music uni n stuff (think she was the one that got chucked out of Guildhall, or meby RCM, for not practicing enough, but not sure) And now has made it very big in Brit.

Cheers for the reminder - I'd forgotten about her. Thats our count up to 4 famous sax ladies, inc the Zutons player. Thats a bit sad really int it? Had a trawl through my mp3's n Ingrid was th only one I could find.

So come on ladies - get practicing!

I don't know her name, but there's this tiny little lass who plays baritone with the Bert Kaempfert Orchestra.

What's funny is that their piccolo player is a great big giant of a man. You kind of wonder if they picked up the wrong instruments when they got off the coach.

Haven't heard of Mindi Abair, but will look her up.

I've only heard a few things from her, but "Sweet" Sue Terry also seems to play a pretty hot alto. I found her name while on the tim price section of the saxontheweb site where she's contributed a really interesting article on sound development.

Actually, it's just a good piece of solo music for the saxophone 😱)

Sue Terry's blog makes, IMO, really fascinating reading - she writes poetry, does obits for friends who've 'passed', and quotes acid mails to cheeky gig-bookers who want her to play for peanuts 🙂

Karen Sharp.

I saw her in Welwyn several months ago fronting a quartet. She plays a lovely tenor, and is a big Sonny Rollins fan.
