Thanks for the feedback! Listening back this morning I also noticed the sound was a bit bright and thin. I'm going to keep trying things.
Based on your feedback and my feeling about this, the two things I'll do next time is record with no or less HPF on either mic, then master in Pro Tools with the Fairchild 670 emulator. That means when I make the backing track I don't apply master bus compression. I like the flexibility of Logic though but it doesn't come with this specific plug-in which I like. The good thing is that I can always try Logic again and play around with the settings later but the Fairchild 670 is the tried and true classic sound of old jazz recordings.

Whether processing or post-processing 'live sax, it takes IMHO some time and experimentation to get 'the sound' as you want it to be. if you're not completely satisfied with your recorded 'sound', there's always plenty of time to 'tweak; and experiment with other settings.
Mike, I appreciate the feedback! I also thought this came out pretty good at first too (in terms of the mix) but later felt it was a little subdued sounding overall, however my following few experiments came out much worse. So in the end this is probably the best starting point I have for continuing to refine my mixes. The technical problem I was having was too low of a recording volume with my ribbon mic, so I picked up a cloud lifter CL-1 today, which will add gain and has a lower, possibly more optimal input impedance than the pre-amp. But in terms of basic mixing techniques I'm going to stick with this as an example. Once I have the process down it will free up more energy to work on the actual music playing. 🙂
Because I had reed troubles for so long I spent less time mixing this. I believe I have worked out my sound in my latest video “I’m Late”!
