I didn't see the original post, but I think "Hype" is a word that different people interpret differently.
Used in very general terms it can be purely inoffensive and just mean favourable comments, reviews or speculation by the public.
When coupled to the producer of the merchandise and their advertising, then it can take on a meaning of "overenthusiastic marketing" or worse, "misleading marketing" as seen here:

But very often it can just mean any kind of "below the line" marketing: mentioning it on fora would be construed as "hype" by some people and not mean anything worse than taking advantage of an opportunity to broadcast your commercial activities.
I don't mind admitting that I'm sort of hyping it in some ways, and maybe I expect to get away with more than I would if it wasn't a charity venture.
Anyway, I suggest you two resolve the matter by finding out what each others definition and inference is so we can all be friends here.
