It started as sub tone then transformed to ballad. For many people it may be the same thing?

It shouldn’t be. Sub tone is a way of shaping a note - a ballad is a style of song.

You can play a ballad with a pure tone or loud, just as you can use sub tone on an uptempo tune.
...and I ended up answering another question, which was, "Do you change your mouthpiece to suit how frequently you have been practicing and playing?"

In answer to the thread question: I have a Morgan Fry 7* and a PPT 9* with which I can play subtone sounds, and which I can also be confident will permit enough nuance for a half decent stab at a ballad. I have some other MF mouthpieces of different lays that can also be played according to situation

I have a PPT9* that has been brightened by Morgan Fry, with which I can play loud but with less sublety
