Just as an aside, if Ellington Gershwin or Porter (or Wilson) are NOT in heaven, then I am hopefully going where they are.
This interesting as a concept; and Cole Porter in particular from a religious perspective during the time of his life: sham marriage to cover for suspected homosexuality, which during his lifetime absolutely meant you were going to hell.

But should folk get to heaven and/or hell based on their body of their work, or how they behave?

(Personally, as a defunct Catholic, I think neither exists, and all that happens after you die is nothing.)

I remember some fairly famous cowboy singer said said ''do dogs go to heaven ?.. if not can I go where they go please ? ''
I kind of go with that one.. ( there needs to be cats there too of course 🙂 )

Or, what they believe?
Depends on who you ask. None of us really know.

Cole Porter wrote a tune “Let’s Misbehave”, and certainly wrote from experience, as he himself often misbehaved, according to the mores of the time.

But his music and poetry are sublime in my opinion, and that counts for a lot. At least with me.

I don’t know if “I” will exist when my poor body finally wears out. But I do believe that part of my spirit will continue somewhere, making whatever passes for music in that unknown realm. Right next to Cole Porter and Miles and Cannonball and Bach and…

I too hope that music will have a place in the afterlife.

As the Dream Theater song says, the spirit carries on. I'm just not convinced that our behavior will be the ultimate decider on where we end up.

For some reason, can't quite put my finger on it, I like a lot of Cole Porter songs. So I guess I agree with you on that point.

I always say that we live on in the memory of those that knew us when we lived.
So if they knew you as a kind, good person, you will live on as kind and good memories.
If they knew you as an *******, you will live on as bad memories.

Well, I would suggest that the "spirit" of Cole Porter, Miles, Cannonball, Bach et al continues by us folk listening to them and playing their music.

In which case, yeah it would be very cool to go where they go in the afterlife.... but sadly I don't think my music will stand any test of time! Instead, I'll be happy that my kids, family and friends might remember me fondly. Not that I'll have any way of knowing that.... or even have a concept of I anymore.... or have anything to have a concept with....

Similar threads... or are they? Maybe not but they could be worth reading anyway 😀
