Some of the moves where in there Ivan honest, just not all of them. Plus one or two reversed phrases thanks to Cubase. As things did get a little predictable at times.
Aldevis, I've no idea if the remedy works I just borrowed the picture. As for drones, sorry to say it but no. Just my normal day of playing. Thanks to you both for your comments..

Mixed in the most netless unforgiving way.

I didn't quite intend it to be so BARE mixed, honestly. I do rather like the backing track even if I have EQed it heavily, and I couldn't stand hearing so little of it my first mix.

So, here's my new mix which hopefully makes the serving more palatable 😀

Much better seasoning indeed.
Do not waste excessive time trying to have a good mix, it is often almost impossible to decently combine machines and saxophones. Next time try to add some multiband compressor or "finalizer" at the end of everything.

I used Reaper 4.1 to mix this one best I could with my amateur knowledge.

A tiny little bit of the VST plugin called OTT on the Sax track (a free multiband compressor with lots of grittiness xferrecords.com/freeware/ ).
A small amount of ReaEQ on the Sax track to fatten it a little here and pinch it a tad there.
Plugin reverb called VoxEng OldSkool on the Sax track to add a touch of room depth.

Quite bit of OTT and ReaEQ on the backing track - to make the percussion pop and add crunchiness.
And then the ReaComp compressor with around 4:1 ratio on the whole mix and then a very light 'Master Mix' reverb care of VoxEng OldSkool plugin.

Besides my substandard playing, my real problem with the first mix was due to mixing it only with headphones that day.
Monitors are the only way to make the final call on how everything sits in the mix as I learnt the next day upon reviewing the mix with speakers..

I don't know anyone able to mix something at home that works well straight away when converted into mp3.
Unless you just use stock plastic sounds and no saxophones.
Actually, many of the studios where I worked were not even able to record a saxophone properly.

I am not familiar with your software, but the less the better.
I usually put a EQ (parametric) on the sax, if microphone or room give me unwanted frequencies, a reverb on a bus, a multiband compressor on the main out.

Yesterday I opened a file I recorded and mixed in 2004, and my current computer cannot use most of the original plugins (VST) I used. It sound much better without them...

Careful not to spend more time on recording software than on saxophone....

I am having problems to sound exotic on this backing track. I would like to know what exoctic scales to use to be more in the mood. I am playing with Alto but could as well play with soprano as it seems easier. I have detetected a Dm concert key.

Spot on: Spanish one is what I had originally in mind, but anything starting with D (Re) can work.
