On the other sax forum, there is a post from 2008 that said "Grassi has recently sold its brand name to a wholesaler.
Today Grassi saxophones on the market are made in China"
Old news I guess, but I thought it might be relevant here.....

Saxontheweb forum? I didn’t so that but I am aware the grassis now are not the same thing, as you say made in China and the only connection being the name.

Sadly they use a the same trademark logo design and do actually say Grassi Italy which seems a bit misleading. Sold by G4M

I did a little bit of poking around and seems Grassi the brand is now owned by Proel - an Italian company (but with international offices).

They proudly present their Italian heritage, though.

Indeed the history on idamariagrassi.com of course says nothing about the sale to a large wholesaler/distributor and concentrates on the heritage.

On the Grassi website, the top of the line 'Academy' instrument specs state made in Taiwan.

The other cheaper lines do not state a country of origin, one would assume China.

Not relevant in this case: the model pictured is an old made in Italy model, stencilled for a reseller probably.

Similar threads... or are they? Maybe not but they could be worth reading anyway 😀
