First sound clip

Go easy. took me a while to work out how to do this, and about 10 goes till I was happy

A bit bright/high pitched but I did not want to mess with that till I know a bit more and wanted the sax as it sounds, I cleaned it up a bit/lot in audacity

I should move on to something else to play, I have been flogging that to death for some time

Very strange hearing it play back, really don't like the pitch the more I hear it, I think it's me being to tight and the reed being a bit soft

I played the same piece on to a Revox tape to tape and it was not very good

The digi is a bit of a cheat in that way

Sounds good to me, Smiffy. Great tone, nice vibrato, and intonation sounds spot on to me. You say Audacity helped with that?

nah but you can clean it up, back ground and other stuff , change all sorts of stuff but it was my first go at it so not an expert at all

I have been playing with it today and still can't do much

One thing, the recording are a lot cleaner than say a tape recorder, this is not necessarily a good thing, you're not getting the "live" play

It is worth having but I would not rely on it being true to your playing or mine,
you still have to play well to end up with something worthy, a bum note will still be a bum note

As I said before, on the Revox, a very good tape to tape, there was a lot of stuff that was not picked up by the digi recording,

Nice feel to the playing, and good intonation!! Was that the S80 or Soloist that you were using? The sound leaned towards the classical to my ears, which is not a problem just what struck me subjectively. I played it as an exam piece on flugelhorn (Grade 3 Jazz) as well as on Sax, and never tire of it.
Have you thought of a new piece. My vote would be something by Herbie Hancock - 'Watermelon Man' or 'Cantaloupe Island'. Perhaps a new Breakfast Room challenge would be to let others decide what our next piece should be, especially if we can get a little stuck.

Helen, well I'm pretty much still on grade 3 stuff with grade 4/5 scales, and of yet haven't picked anything in that range, suggestions would be good

I know nothing of Jazz apart from looking at the scales but not playing them, I have no books

Just been doing a bit of practise for 20 and I have the dreaded squeaks, 2 steps forward one back Grr!!

I am playing both of the above (from the Jamey Abersold Maiden Voyage book) great fun, easy-ish to play, Watermelon man is great for bluesy soloing 🙂

I have no idea how to record myself :erm: but if someone could give me some idea it would be appreciated! (not that Im ready to post anything but I think I might be able to get a better idea of how I sound).
