Does it really matter where the Arundo Donax is grown?

As the title says, does it matter for the reed quality whether the source material (Arundo Donax) comes from the Mediterranean, Asia, Southern America, or anywhere else?

Yes, it does matter where the Arundo Donax is grown as the climate, soil, and other environmental factors can affect the quality of the reed. Arundo Donax grown in certain regions may have different physical and acoustic properties, which can impact the sound and playability of the reed. Additionally, the harvesting and processing methods used in different regions can also affect the quality of the reed.

In that case, where is the best reed grown then?

@jthole you received the politically correct answer. I'm going to tell you, what the best region is. The Var region (Département 83) in Provence.

How do I know? I was born there, so I know, don't I?

It's true that I'm from there. But is it really the best region? Not sure. All I know is that most of the best reeds are made from cane grown there.

Now, a few months ago I was in the area of one of the top reeds makers so I decided to make a quick stop, take a look and buy a few boxes while I was there.

I don't really need more reeds as I'm guessing I have enough for a lifetime already, but again I was in the area.

Sadly, I didn't get a very satisfying treatment as there was a group of visitors that had registered for a tour and I didn't. But as I entered the premises to see if I could perhaps buy some reeds I have been completely ignored. As if I was not even there. Quite frustrating!

Being french, I could have done a french scene, calling them names in french and telling them how unprofessional that was, but I preferred to just leave and forget about the whole thing.

It doesn't matter to them I guess but they lost a customer forever.

You may have the best product in the whole world, but I can't accept being treated like this. Unfortunately I must admit it is very french. 😳
