Saxophones Cannonball Tenor Saxophone

I’m finally starting to like my tenor tone. I had so much trouble with the bell tones at first. I also do lots of mouthpiece exercises. I like to jam along to records on just the mouthpiece. It sounds terrible, but it’s fun!

Would it work to test the cannonball alto? My theory is that I can then do a comparison of the horns character, put it through its paces more and translate that across to the tenor
Not all that logical

How's about getting some playing time on a cheap, good quality tenor and then unleash yourself on the more expensive tenor market?

You could hire a tenor for a short while

Alternatively, just buy what you fancy, have it checked and set by a tech and then play to your heart's content until some years hence you get the GAS itch again.... which is the path I have followed

Every different saxophone size has it's own idiosyncrasy..
I'm mainly a tenor player. It needs a lot of work and dedication to pretend that I play the soprano, the alto or the bari.
These are sports for dedicated and professional players.

I can blow all of them. But the more time I spend on my main horn (tenor) the better I get in all of 'em 🙂

In an ideal world I’d buy a student model, I was looking at Sakkusu for a while. But I can’t afford to chop and change with any kind of regulatory so I want to try and buy something that’ll meet my needs for more than a few years. Because I know in a few years time I’ll have the itch to play Baritone.
What’s GAS?

Get Another Saxophone or, less contextually, Gear Acquisition Syndrome

I understand where you're coming from. I went for the: 'it's a Selmer so it should be half decent' approach, which I haven't regretted

But early on I decided tenor wasn't for me because it was a pig to play compared to my same make alto. Transpires it had never been set up properly, with leaks left right and centre. I joined this forum, took tenor to tech and it's now my main instrument, just as I had always hoped

After the best part of 5 hours of playing i chose to buy the vintage reborn. It bottled down to that, the big bell series or the YTS62.
My heart ruled my head in the end with a last minute decision change with the big bell on the checkout counter. What a good decision it was to change as the VR turned out to be on clearance sale, plus a 10% emergency services discount and only cost fractionally more than a YTS280!

Congrats! Nice to get the discount. Have fun with your new tenor.

I’ve been in the market for my first tenor for a while now. I’m not an experienced player but I want to stay away from another student model.
The yanagisawa TW01 has been my main focus but I’ve always the look of the cannonballs.
Having never played a tenor I’m reliant on reviews to decide which saxophones are ‘better’ before trying them myself.

I find cannonballs whole online pricing policy a bit bizarre. So, anyway, I went to my local shop who I’m quite friendly with and enquiried about the vintage reborn tenors (their premium model I believe) and was told he could do me one for £2000, I suspect there’s an element of ‘mates rates’ but without an official price list it’s impossible to tell.

What’s everyone opinions or experiences with this brand/model. The reviews appear decent and at £600 less than a TW01 it seems a bargain.
cannonball pricing online is always funky. If you want to buy a cannonball, do not purchase it online. Go to a music store as you will get a more accurate price. Cannonball horns are great so long as you find one of the more modern makes, as they are built better.

Similar threads... or are they? Maybe not but they could be worth reading anyway 😀
