Hey Tom. Obviously you took no notice of all the negative comments you were receiving from home and friends and you've carried on with your passion for the sax. Well done my friend. It must have taken guts.
I think your sound has improved immensely. You have come on in leaps and bounds since your last try. You sound like you have more diaphragmatic control and your tone is benefiting from that. Your timing is difficult to comment on for me, I'm unable to hear the tune clearly and its not one that I know, but it sounds ok to me. (I think you may be a little out, but I'm not sure.) I'll leave that one for someone else to comment on.
Your video is of a much higher quality as now the camera is static and no longer hand held. That gives it a more professional feel. Next time try to consider the composition of the picture, try to remove objects like the music stand if you can.
Its all good. You appear to be more relaxed and having fun.
Again I say it, well done my friend, well done. 8) 8)

Taz thank you i am at the moment now concentrating on my scales and i hope i will be taking my exams in December. I am starting on grade 4.a.b.r.s.m. I think this is the way forward for me? i also have some help from a friend [distant] a teacher from Derby he is on the other end of the phone for me i will get there Taz cheers mate speak soon Tom.

Sounds great - a big improvement - but you are right, you do need to do some work on timing I would say it gets a bit rushed.

Work with a metronome, don't be frightened to tap your foot, move your body (but maybe the grade 4 people wouldn't like this).

AND, turn the track up so you listen as much (or more) to the backing as you do yourself. Try singing along with the backing first.

Hi Tom, I agree with Taz, nice to see you're still at it. 🙂 . I'm not an expert, being a beginner and all, but I could hear a definate improvement from the last one. The sound seems more fluid and less stilted compared with the Summertime 2 video.

Strangely enough when I first listened to it, I thought I didn't know the tune. Then at the end my brain sort of unscrambled it and I recognised it so I listened to it again. It sounded really good and the timing sounded better in some places and a tad quick in others. But what do I know - my timing is rubbish 😛

well done tom, scales are definately the way to go - I have started having lessons again and yep you've guessed it I'm doing around an hour of scales and arpeggios and modes every day.

re the timing I agree with Pete you need to relax more and "feel" the timing. you could also try playing it from memory, maybe 4 bars at a time - then post your sound clip again.

good luck and keep at it - long notes scales are all worth it in the end.

I think that's really good Tom. Good tone that sounds a lot better than your previous video (though I thought the main problem there was that the mic on the camera was distorting the sound of the sax - no such problems on this one). The timing is a little off in places but maybe the backing wasn't loud enough for you to hear it properly. Is that O'Neill you're playing along too? I try to play this tune myself on the tenor and you certainly play it better than I do lol. The intonation on those tricky high notes sounds spot on to my ears. Very good.

Thank you Peter, No its Jamie Abersold play along. I do feel a little happier with myself as i am back up to about an hour a day and i hope to do grade 4 in December WELL I WILL i am determined thanks again.
