BOTM September 2014 BOTM "Teach Me Tonight".

wow Guenne - that was simply just superb. Fantastic sound and playing. Something to inspire us for sure! 😎😎

I have to agree, great job.
And thanks for not making me get the alto out, it's for the best.

@U CAN CALL ME AL: Great to hear that 12M again, sounding good.
I just got my 12m the other day and with the aid of a couple of rubber bands, it is playing ok.
So will try to post a take on this soon.

Hey,
fine playing.
You have the same problem with reharmonisation when you play the melody as I have.
The melody note does not fit the chord.
I have to figure out how playing the reharmonized chords only in the improvisation works (I suppose it's BiaB)

Cheers,
Guenne

Really???

Hello,

so this is my alto version.
I've made a background track using BiaB.
Good thing is, from the saxophone standpoint, there is progress. The alto has some power to it, although most of it is lost through the recording of course.
Improvisation sounds a bit like this guy explains:
Well, after all, it's done, hehe.

Have fun,

I almost didn't play for 5 weeks, but gave this very nice BOTM (and some SOTW TOTM tunes) a try last Friday evening. Fingers and embouchure are a bit rusty because of the lack of playing, so I used a very soft Plasticover 2 reed on my Florida no USA 10* mouthpiece. It's a free version because I didn't exactly remember how this tune goes and my reading is too bad to get that from the sheet music. Good that Chris and Guenne just showed me above how this really should be played, only too late for my recording! Anyhow, here is my take:

Vintage... the 50's gear shines through

Look forward to hearing your many different styles at work on this tune.
Nick.

love the vibe sir, great playing!

your youtube title "Touch Me Tonight"

A Freudian slip, also called parapraxis, is an error in speech, memory, or physical action that is interpreted as occurring due to the interference of an unconscious ("dynamically repressed") subdued wish, conflict, or train of thought guided by the ego and the rules of correct behaviour. They reveal a "source outside the speech". The concept is thus part of classical psychoanalysis.

Slips of the tongue and of the pen are the classical parapraxes, but psychoanalytic theory also embraces misreadings, mishearings, temporary forgettings, and the mislaying and losing of objects.

Been away enjoying the late summer sun in the Lake District and have come home to dull drizzly autumnal weather so listening to all the recordings this thread has cheered me up. Thanks for some wonderful playing. 🙂

Thanks 🙂. Unfortunately I can't play at home, so the only practise I get is once a week during Big Band rehearsal.

no probs you sound great. i use to have this space that i rented years ago and my neighbor gave me hell if she heard the sax. that's when i decided to practice with my normal gigging full blow embouchure but at the volume of "ppppp"(that's barely audible). and with no articulation. lots of scales and arpeggios. it was the best thing for playing believe me. try it out. no sub-tone. lots of mouthpiece in mouth as if full blowing on gigs. massive support from diaphragm and support from embouchure (Roger Mannins has a Youtube clip on support and long tones worth watching) Bingo best thing for my playing. Definitely a blessing in disguise. Good luck!
