BOTM September 2014 BOTM "Teach Me Tonight".

I almost didn't play for 5 weeks, but gave this very nice BOTM (and some SOTW TOTM tunes) a try last Friday evening. Fingers and embouchure are a bit rusty because of the lack of playing, so I used a very soft Plasticover 2 reed on my Florida no USA 10* mouthpiece. It's a free version because I didn't exactly remember how this tune goes and my reading is too bad to get that from the sheet music. Good that Chris and Guenne just showed me above how this really should be played, only too late for my recording! Anyhow, here is my take:

- 'Teach Me Tonight' (Florida no USA 10* - Plasticover 2):

Great to hear you all getting in on this one.

@Guenne: Wow, Stunning take there with a great feel for timing. Great Stuff.
@mrpeebee: Peter as with Guenne this was also a great take played in your trademark style.

Hope to hear some more versions of this very catchy tune over the coming weeks.
Nick.

Damn,

that sounds great!

Thanks, also loved your take!

Mouthpieces likes yours have the advantage you can park your car in there when it rains, hehe.
My teacher used to say (translating from German): "You can chase pigs through it..."🙂
Lots and lots of cojones, I am impressed, wow.

Cheers,
Günter

Guenne, sounds really good, great feel and tone.
Peter, nothing wrong with a fee version. Your style seems suited to this tune:thumb:
Nick, I think I was trying to get away from playing all those repeated 1/8th notes and do something a little different.
Alun, nice quick version. Looking forward to some more as the month passes.:thumb:

Chris..

Oh No... not the Alto.... 🙂

Hello,

so this is my alto version.
I've made a background track using BiaB.
Good thing is, from the saxophone standpoint, there is progress. The alto has some power to it, although most of it is lost through the recording of course.
Improvisation sounds a bit like this guy explains:

Have fun,
Guenne

This track is growing on me more and more. I popped Teach Me Tonight in spotify and loads of versions old and new. I think Amy Winehouse is up there as one of the best.
Have to agree, she was an amazing singer 🙂

I had a quick play at this one on Bari to try out a fibracell that's been sitting in my case for a while.

Nick.
Lovely Bari version and I'm not a lover of the Bari :thumb:
@mrpeebee WOW :clapping:

I couldn't get to hear Guenne's versions i've got to apparently add a plug in on my laptop ?
I've got to stop leaving it so late to listen to these tracks, just spent the last hour listening but it was worth it :thumb:

Another version I like on the tube and a lady I always check out when BoTM comes around....

I agree too ! The more I listen, the more I like the Amy Winehouse version. I know that it is based on a Dinah Washington recording, but I think Amy does it even better and is clearly having a great time singing live with Jools Holland's band.

I like it so much that I am trying to put together the same arrangement to do with the big band I play with - we've got an excellent singer who should be able to sing it really well.

Rhys

PS Hope to submit a BOTM recording by the end of the month - time just shoots by.
