i splashed out on a Cd this week of the local market..i bought it because of donald byrd, but low and behold the was pepper adams playing along side him.. i haven't heard him in years, and can he play that bari..
anyone elsae like him? i know pete will .

I'll have to check, but I believe Donald Byrd and Pepper Adams feature on the live album 'The Thelonius Monk Orchestra Live At The Town Hall' from the late 50's, which is the Monk quartet augmented to a nonet. And what a wonderful album it is too.

pepper adams is my absolute hero

why he isnt in everyones top 10 sax players is a constant mystery to me - noone plays a bari better

i could listen to "10 to 4 at the 5 spot" all day

I like Pepper Adams. I'm still in the Harry Carney camp as far as Bari goes (to me he was the master of that horn), but I have to support old Pepper, as he hailed from the Motor City (both of my parents grew up there).

i like carney but think i would personally rate bluiett or chaloff (or even mulligan at his best if im the right mood) as adams closest contenders
