Ligature positioning

My Rovner Dark lig seems to allow too much sideways movement of the reed(even screwed-down tight), and I wonder if I have it positioned too far 'on'..... where should the 'bottom' edge of the lig be in relation to the end of the reed?

Thanks

Hi Roger,

when using Rovner ligs, I tend to position mine using the top edge of the lig as a guide and place the top edge a few millimeters below where the cut of the reed starts - (the semi circular part)

Q if your lig is screwed down tight does it move on the mouthpiece or is it secure?

you could possibly have the wrong size lig for your mouthpiece. We sell rovner ligs in the shop I repair for and there must be around 25 different sizes.

But if your lig is tight then the latral mopvement could well be due to your lig being too low on the reed.

Hi Roger - this'd be the lig JodyJazz includes with the DV mpc? It has 1CRVS written inside on the fabric? So when you're looking down at the mpc with the reed facing up, the screw off to the right, I place the top edge of the lig a couple mil down from the cut part on the U of the reed. If you're playing French cut reeds, just park it along the line of the cut.

I found you've got to tighten this lig up until the two fabric covered bars on top are almost touching.

(This would have been quicker with a pic, eh?)

Good luck!
Simon

After taking it apart Simon, I discovered it actually says 1RVC, but it is the one supplied with the lig, by a JJ dealer.

I think I've been fitting it too near the end of the reed, thanks for the advice.
