My Hanson SA-5 from Petesax arrived this morning!!! I'm really excited!!!

Gotta get it past the wife now. Last week when I said I was going to buy it, she reminded me I was going to go the hire/buy route in case I didn't get on with it, and to wait.

I might be in trouble now!!!

She's going to take it away anyway as it's for my birthday. Got to wait 'til June 26th!!!!

im not sure i should advocate disobeying your wife, but if you can get a sneaky couple of sessions in this week i doubt you'll regret it

in my experience, you will most likely get totally hooked the first time you get a recognisable note out of the thing

Hi Pauline,

I WILL have fun!!!!

We have a bit of a tradition in the family that you can't have your present before your birthday, and it has been rigorously enforced with the children. If I suddenly decide I'm going to have my present before my birthday, I'd never live it down!!!

So it's a bit of a wait unfortunately!!! 🙁

Hi Phil,

Well, Paul has said I could have the option of sending it back in a couple of weeks if I didn't get on with it. (It's not going to come to that Paul!!) So I'll tell that to the wife and say I'll have to play it for a bit just to make sure!!

Nick/Spike...

You two look very similar in your avatars....are you related?

😛

I also heard the 26th of May is cancelled this year and in any case thats so long away the kids will have sold it on ebay by then !
How am I making you feel ?
Only joking...good on you, for leading by example to the kids.

June, Saxlicker, June... an even longer wait. And you're probably right about the kids and e-bay!!!!

And I have to admit, I did nick Spike's idea for the avatar. Zoot has been my inspiration for playing the saxophone ever since the Muppets first came on the telly in the 70s. When I saw Spike's avatar, I realized that was what I wanted too, but I couldn't nick the same picture, so did a search on Google and found that one!!

(Hope you don't mind Spike!!!)

Hi Nick,

Congrats on the new arrival. I'm in a similar boat awaiting a ST-5 from Hanson. I hope I get mine before the end of June though!!

Just wait til this missus is out and have a sneaky go!

All the best.
scooch.

Since your wife is obviously such a reasonable lady, explain to her that you must test it within the 'free return period' just to be sure it's not faulty.... thrn take it around to your nearest friendly saxophonist for him to re-assure you, and for you to hear what it will eventually sound like 😀

Well, it didn't go too well last night. She was most annoyed that I'd bought it without telling her!!! She took it away immediately, and said I couldn't have it 'til my birthday!!!

So it's back to learning music on the recorder for another month!!! 🙁

I think the recorder is a very hard instrument to play well.

The control needed is quite extreme.

It would quite beneficial I think to start some long tone practise on the recorder, and some music theory in practise, i.e a few scales maybe?

I guess you'll be a bit ahead with the music reading so you should be able to concentrate on the sax well, which will speed things up I guess.
