BOTM Feb 2015 Ballad of the Month "Moonlight in Vermont"

One more tip I discovered while working out the changes. A whole tone scale works quite well over the #11 dominant chord. The cool thing about whole tone scales is that there are only two to learn. Once you've got the pattern down, you can start the series on any note.

C D E F# G# A# C

Db Eb F G A B Db

Hi,
2 Major chords, one based on the root and one a wholestep above too.
For example on C7#11 a triad on C and one on D.
Walt Weiskopf's "Intervallic Improvisation" is highly recommended.

I have listened through all the versions so far.
So many people making great music, I think there is hope for this world 🙂

Thanks,
Guenne

Hi,

here's my first contribution. I traded my metal Barone for a Rafael Navarro Bebop Special 7**. This is the MPC Bob Mintzer plays (or plays officially, I don't care). Seems a good deal for me, the MPC sells for 450 pounds.
I received it on Thursday, I think I will keep it, but I will have to practice a lot on it, it is not as easy to play as my other MPCs.

I found this playback somewhere on my computer, it says Moonlight in Vermont "Mel Torme Style".
Good things to practice in various keys, hehe.

Mark VII, Rafael Navarro Bebop Special 7**, Rigotti 3med.
iPad Air 2, Auria, Nohype LRM1 Ribbon, Apogee One Interface, Nice simulation of a Lexicon room simulation 🙂

Cheers,
Guenne

@Jimmy - you've got a great tone. I liked how you "pushed" the melody at the start.
@Chris - you are suited to this tune ... Moonlight over Chris !
@Clivey - awesome low notes, subtones and vibrato.
@MLoosemore - I liked how you varied the melody the second time around
@jbtsax - great solo .. you have a really lyrical style.
@bflateflat - it's Ben Webster !! Fantastic !

I catch up to the newer posts as soon as I can.

Many great versions both in-house and legendary.
My own favourite and the first I ever heardis again Stan Getz
but with the wonderful guitarist Johnny Smith. Nothing more beautiful!!

Some great versions posted already 🙂.

I never played this song before and often mix it up with 'Autumn in New York', so it took me three takes to get the melody a bit decent. Also did speed up the tempo of the backing quite a bit. Here is my (still!) quick and dirty take:

- 'Moonlight In Vermont' (Florida no USA 10* - Plasticover 2):
