Miscellaneous Father's Day

Do they celebrate "Father's Day" in the UK? Today June 16 is Father's Day in the U.S. I have three wonderful (grown up) children ages 48, 47, and 44 and a total of 7 grandkids. My wife got me a $250 gift certificate to Amazon. Life is good.

Yes, same day here. A bottle of smelly stuff and a Bacon curing and cheese making kit for me from the kids. A bottle of Writer's Tears Whiskey for my old man (and an excuse not to cut the grass today). Have a good one!

Same here. A card and a text from daughter. Nothing from son - as expected and I'm not at all bothered. I went down the pub with Mrs W and we had a nice chin wag.

I wasn't that bothered and as my sons live in Eastern Germany I didn't think they'd remember. Like Kev said, it was some weeks ago in Germany. However, they did remember and wished me a happy day during our skype video chat last night and as they sent Mrs YC and me a Fortnum and Mason's hamper for our wedding anniversary at the end of May that was more than sufficient.

I had a card from my daughter this year, first time in 4 fathers days. Nearly fell off my chair when I opened it!

I had a card from my youngest (10) the other two are teenagers. They don't care!

About anything.

Except Instagram, Twitter and probably a few other things in the case of the older one (16).

The middle one (14) is a game addict, but he lost all of his gaming gear (confiscated) due to excessive usage outside authorised periods/locations.

It's not fun to be a parent of teens. At least at the moment. Nothing serious, but I was not expecting to play cop and fight with teatchers complaining they don't work...

I wanna quit it and take my boys sailing away to discover the fabulous world. Spending quality time fishing or looking for shells in the coral reefs and in the sand. Teach them the signs. Dumping all digital life for weeks or months... 😎

Problem is they don't seem to improve with age. Our 4 sons (56 years old down to the baby at 49) are all different in nature and still as much trouble - by and large - as they were about 40 years ago! My Father's Day gifts varied from a bag of Licorice Allsorts to two pounds of sausages and a bottle of wine and from a bottle of wine to two bottles of wine and a selection of chocolate bars. They have a vision of me as an emaciated dipsomaniac, obviously. Wouldn't swap any of them though because each in his own way makes me laugh when I am not beset with frustration and despair at their seeming inability to be sensible (or at least consistent in terms of their ideosyncracies). One has been divorced twice and at 56 is still in pursuit of the ideal female companion, another one parted company with one live in ladyfriend because she gave his scallops ( gathered in pursuit of his diving hobby) to the cat. His current companion was his cleaner and he thought it would be cheaper to move her in than pay her. She is on slippery ground. because she left her horse in the back garden for a change of scenery and it scoffed his embryo apple crop on a little tree he has been nurturing for six years. Life is rarely dull with this lot.

I lost my dad when he was 62, 21 years ago and I have tears in my eyes now. Love him and miss him all the time.

About 10 years ago my son said he wondered if it was time to settle down a bit and look for the right sort of woman. A decade on, and a number of associations that seem to wax and wane, he shows every sign of enjoying the search so much he doesn’t want it to end.
