Underslung octave keys are cool. Conn was trying to bring back coolness.

Several cool-category vintage horns had underslung neck octaves. The original 6M had a true underslung key just like that. The King Super 20 and Buescher 400 both had underslung keys but with the octave pip still on top. The Yanagisawa 880 and 99X paid homage to these models.
I had a Conn C Melody, a very nice sax, it had been well set up. I also found the sling ring far too high up the body of the sax and found it didn't hang naturally. I made up an aluminium extension to shift the balance of the sax to where it felt more natural, and, well, balanced.
I've done the same thing
Much better now

I've been popped in the cheek when reaching for the music stand with both hands. You have to remember to keep one hand on the horn is all. It's different, but as with any other ergonomic thing, if you play a 10M all the time you probably don't notice.

Switching from any other horn, a 10M feels weird and not just due to the strap ring. The hand position for the lower stack keys bothers me more than the strap ring location.

Yes, I find it a bit of a stretch for my L4 (ring finger).

You're a senior member, I'm a senior person still trying to fathom the technicalities of posting on the internet. I prefer communicating by paper with my Conway Stewart fountain pen c.1940's.
Then you, too, must know and appreciate that David Byrne has a sense of humor about dealing with the world.

If/when you choose, I’d love to see you start a thread about fountain pens and share some images of such classics.

All the best to you and yours, Brewer. May you have a good reed today.
