BOTM BOTM November 2015 - I Didn't Know What Time It Was

Hi Saxofriends,

I did a new version, unfortunately I don't have a ballad backing, so medium will have to do.

I got my iPad Pro yesterday, so I tried how it would work. It's all done on iPad (Apogee Duet), though there is a difference in sound even compared to the second tune I've put on Soundclound some time ago (Where or When) which I recorded on my iMac with my UE Apollo Interface.
I think I found a solution for my microphone woes, I always had peaks, no matter how low I set the sensitivity, this time I placed it on one (right) side and not facing straight straight to the ribbon, but in a slight "offset" angle (Røde NTR).

From a saxophone standpoint, I am practicing keeping a flat lip (Allard school) and focusing on tongue position.
Doing lots of work with Ben Britton's "A Complete Approach to Overtones" and Ted Nash's "Studies in high Harmonics".

So, here it is, hope you like it:

Cheers, Guenne

Always a pleasure... 😉

Hey,

Sorry to bother you with another version with nothing new except the sax🙂

I bought 2 Selmers this summer, after refusing Mark VIes and SBAs for a very, very long time.
After doing so, I had the luxury problem of not wanting to take them to music school, dance ball gigs and so on...

I tried several horns, some didn't fit, some were just too - well - cheap 🙂

Okay, I found a horn, that is almost new, althoug it has to have some years it is better than display.
No scratches, even the cork looks new.
It's a Yamaha 875 (without EX), I got it for €2400,-, which is much money, but compared to other things you get for that it seems a good decision. It is so easy to play....
To my ears, it still has some "Yamaha" to it, but I think it has a rather fat, strong sound, pleasing to the ear. Compared to my Selmers, it might lack some of the upper partials prominent in their sound, but it's their "Classical" horn, and a MPC change might help (if desired at all).

Funny how things sound completely different when you put them on a decent speaker, your right there's much more in there, first time I listened was on the iPad and it was very much Billie

Well it's time to hand over the reign to another member to choose a ballad for us all to enjoy in the next month.
Before that I'd like to thank the members who have given us great versions of a lovely ballad. @U CAN CALL ME AL @bflateflat @Chris @B Flat @rhysonsax @MLoosemore @mrpeebee @Guenne
It was a pleasure listening 🙂

Next months ballad will be chosen by (alto) Balladman @Gareth WG he will be along shortly with his choice :thumb:

Thanks lads and ladettes 😉 but remember these threads are never closed so anyone can post anytime !

Just a quick post to say thanks to Kev for being a great host and for picking a great ballad:thumb:
Also to all you guys that have posted versions:thumb:
I know there are lots of beginners around the Cafe, so I'm throwing out an invite to all you guys to jump in and have a go:w00t: I know that the improvisation side of the tunes can be off putting:confused2:. So for any beginner that wants to give it a go I'll put together a single chorus backing track so they can just play the melody line🙂 I know
Kev has already mentioned next months host, lets just say he's picked a real good Ballad for you guys to play.

Chris..
