BOTM BOTM _ Feb 2021 My Foolish Heart

[U CAN CALL ME AL]

It’s been a while since I’ve had the pleasure to host BOTM, and @nigeld has been kind enough to invite me to host this month. I’ve chosen a song by Victor Young from a not so memorable1949 film of the same name ‘My Foolish Heart’. Nat King Cole’s version was one of my Grandmother’s favourites. A scathing ‘Time’ review stated that "nothing offsets the blight of such tear-splashed excesses as the bloop-bleep-bloop of a sentimental ballad on the sound track.” Nevertheless, the song was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Song and came second. Recorded by many artists it was a million seller for Billy Ekstine.

I’ve included dots, backings etc. , HERE. It is unusually ABAC in its structure except that the second A section has the chords of last 2 bars altered to lead into C.

Backings of 60BPM with a 2 bar intro & 90BPM with a 4 bar intro both have 2 and 3 chorus versions. There are quite a few backing tracks on YouTube if you prefer.

Very good - moody and dark.
Was that a G at the end? Rather a fine one if so.

Thanks, I'd always secretly thought that it was a lot of fuss about not much more than a bit of chicken pox...how wrong I was. Still, plenty are experiencing far worse right now, and this will pass. Thanks for the good wishes.

This may be no use at all, but - when I had shingles the one thing that made all the discomfort go away was to go out for an invigorating run. Weird but true.

Dabbing lemon verbena tea onto the sores helped for me. (Seriously - it really did)

My shingles affected my cervical nerve. Gave me so much pain the only way to relieve it was to rest my forearm on the top of my head. Accompanied by regular doses of tramacet. The sad part was not being able to play at all.

Thanks for the advice. Mine’s been affecting the length of my sciatic nerve from back to ankle, but the rash on the left buttock is particularly nasty!!!

I like to use more modern backing tracks sometimes, especially when I don't know the changes or melody to a song. I slapped on a quick guitar into and went for it. I'll probably do a better one when I know the tune.
