Thanks, Al. After a week or two I may have memorized it! But I always make these mine, when I can, so I'm not always playing it "straight". The last version is in Eb. I liked hitting the low Eb, but the melody turns out to be a pain at the break and kind of ruins the form.

Still working on this! Today is the first time I can play through this 6 and a half minute challenge. I did it on both instruments, but it would be cruel to post them both, so I skipped in and out of each track. I went back to Eb because there are too many high notes for me in Bb, and I like the low Eb and D (concert).

Hi @randulo thank you for posting again seems as if it’s only you and I on this one. Nice recording. Nothing at all wrong with your playing and the individual parts impro etc are fine, but I didn’t find it working for me as a whole there were too many in and outs with not much interconnection. Try some double tracking?

I completely agree with you, it's just a novelty. I could post one or the other but I am the only one doing it so I should wait for a few other takers! I'm pleased that I am finally starting to hear the harmony. I still have some exploration to do. This is not an easy piece, and it's not the best range for alto in Bb, which is why I "moved" the bass up five half steps to Eb.

I'd like to also share my favorite vocal version of the moment, which by luck is in Eb, so playing along is great. Carmen put a lot of originality into this as she does everything. Great piano solo and accompaniment, a fine thing to hear.

Great job @rhysonsax beautifully played and great transcription. From Brignola’s album ‘Flight of the Eagle’ with Kenny Baron, Rufus Reid and Victor Lewis. I used this Jazzbacks too but not the quiet piano only version, I might have to consider this if I ever get back to my background music gigs.

I had heard that Brignola recording yesterday during my extensive research on the tune, and loved it. When I saw your post I thought it was the same recording, so I skipped it. This morning, I noticed it was you. Very nice work, Rhys!

A rhythm section of Kenny Barron, Rufus Reid and Victor Lewis would be hard to beat. I hope you got to hear your brother's quartet playing live - that is exalted company.

That was years ago in New York and they never recorded, unfortunately. Bob is in Denmark, I don't know where the others are. Great players, all.

@randulo it’s never too soon to post, it gives me something to do. I liked the latin style. I didn’t feel the mainly legato tonguing suited would have preferred a much snappier almost stacatto approach. With an emphasis on the 1 and less swing. The impro had a much better feel particularly the triplets on the 1 beat. Keep them coming. Kind regards Al

The cheapest way to play a Selmer is probably the Mark VII.
I got one from Germany (perfectly overhauled, Serial 245xxx), and I love to play it. It feels (and looks) almost like a new horn.

@Guenne Waw! Only a single chorus but what a chorus! Absolutely beautifully played. Wonderfully embellished but only to enhance a beautiful melody. Like @randulo would have liked more.
Was that a gentle smile I saw when you finished?
