Bill Doggetty ?????????????

A couple of times on Jazz radio Station I have heard what I now believe to be Bill Doggett Funky Whistler. But Who is the saxophonist.

The normal sax player with the Bill Doggett Band (Bill himself being a piano and organ player) was Clifford Scott. He's the guy who did the spendid honakge on the original version of Honky Tonk...

I don't think it is Clifford Scott on Funky Whistler, I've read somewhere that he made this recording with members of the James Brown Band, so it might even be Pee Wee Ellis on there. The place to ask is on sotw, unless John Laughter drops by here in the near furture. Dogget did play with several different line-ups over the years.

Hi Spike,

I will look for sound clips for both.

Its the Sax sound I find inspiring from the Funky Whistle. Despite many of the usual favourites I have, the sound feels really comfortable and warm.

( I wish I was a lyrical Adonis to express that better)
