Blues key What about a "Blues of the Month" (one key per month) ?

A blues in C major is not exactly interchangeable with a blues in Am.

While they sound quite different, because they are aesthetically different, it's the same seven notes. To be honest, I'm simply of the opinion that the fewer rules there are, the more likely people are to join in. And some may even record two tracks, one in the major and the other in the relative minor.

I thought about the relative keys. C major (c,d,e,f,g,a,h) and A minor (a,h,c,d,e,f,g)

I can't wait till we play in the key of 'h', that's a new one for me.. 😉

Sorry it should be "B" and not "H". We are still using "H" instead of "B" here in Sweden.

I think it important to play blues in minor. I often hear bluesbands playing a sad bluessongs in major instead of minor..

Down here, V is pronounced more like the English F.

I thought it was the other way around. Bach was supposed to have used his name, B A C Bb as the motif for one of his works. Come to think of it, perhaps it went Bb A C B? 🙂

What's even better is that the sequence BbB gives you the German abbreviation for bra.

I'm not sure where H for B and B for Bb came from. One story was Helmholtz wanted his initial in there, others say his handwriting was so bad, they read H instead of B, but that is pushing it when you get to Bb.

Let's stick to the major key for this month. But later months can be dedicated to a minor key - there are some lovely minor blues and they have their own special feeling.
