Surprising where you can find a bargain

Hey Linky... it may well be a short promo thing which is why they say "when it's gone - it's gone" Although they usually have instruments most of the time. I can have a look at the one near me if you're interested.

"just for academic purposes" -is that the same as when I have a half bottle of brandy just for 'medicinal puposes'?

Well, we went to our nearest netto and theyhad on in the backroom. My girlfiend bought it after I looked it over to make sure it was reasonable, not that I know anything about clarinets. It looks to be a fantastic horn especially for ?40.

Unfortunately Ican barely play the lower 12th unless I sub-tone it. My girlfriend on the other hand with no previous reed experience can play it superbly.

I'm going back for my own in a few weeks when they net get them in.

Oh yes! - GO Bargain hunters - GO!

(I did look at the clarinets -not that I know either- and whilst they didn't look like a pro model, they did look sturdy and quite the business. I've been using the flute for a few weeks now and am liking it more and more! - in fact better than my 'regular' one!. In fact, I'd go further and say, if this is the standard quality of contemporary Chinese instruments, then I difinately am interested in looking at a sax... purely for 'academic' purposes, you understand. Don't think I'll be getting one of those 'MDF' versions tho! LOL)

Ah yes, Academic Purposes.

As a Musician you can get away with purchasing any instrument to further your academic study of music...

now medical puroses, not to sure about those but I find that a drink and decent record does the trick.

See what I've missed while I was 'away' recently - there's a Netto in Hitchin, I bet they don't have any left. How long before they are undercut by either Tesco or Argos, I wonder...

Yeah Bob I got a string quartet free with 40 liters of diesel

Well that's a lot better than some of those duff CD's you get free with your daily/Sunday paper. Tubular Bells, anyone?

Just happened to be in Hitchin today, and popped into Netto - there among a bargain bucket of tap-and-die sets, power-saw blades and other stuff was one smallish white cardboard box bearing the single word 'flute', which indeed it contained. So I am now the proud owner of a Jazz flute (made in PRC), all I need to do is learn where to put my fingers to get more notes out of it than the one I successfully produced. Any hints and tips gratefully received!

And those pads? What kind of animal has skin that yellow???

I popped in yesterday on the off-chance, they had none left in ours.

Still, I wonder how long it will be before they all start turning up in the BR Yard Sale! 😛

Just like saxophone Bobby but at concert pitch, C uses the B finger not the A finger and F# is the Dfinger not the E finger.

It only starts to get odd is above the third C#.

I'm still waiting to get hold of a clarinet for myself.

I had the privilidge of meeting Mr.Linky today - and I had a good butchers at the Netto clarinet.

Gobsmacked!
It had a bent key, due to an accident when assembling the joints, so I had the chance to bend a key...and I found it to be quite tough.
I found one small problem, a point screw that needed a bit of threadlock to secure it.
Other than that, the body is quite tidy, the keywork is suprisingly good - with no excessive free play - and the pads were all seated well.
It played just fine, even with the supplied mouthpiece. You could take one of these on a gig.
Tuning was fine too.
In terms of 'toot for loot', this is the best example I've ever seen - and beats my 'Cheapest price paid for a working horn' by twenty quid!

Regards.

My girlfriend later admitted to me that it wasn't bent in assembly, but she sat on it... I'll buy her a clarinet stand.

She was very pleased to know that the instrument works great and that she got a bargain, now she knows that if something goes wrong it's most likely to be her. But if it's not she can sit on it all she likes and just buy a new one.

Thanks again for looking it over.
Linky.
