Reeds Reed tone differences

a horrid reed is that one that you really need to blow on and feels dead on your tongue

So you mean it's a reed you get a good buzz from when you play it, rather than one that sounds buzzy? I know what you mean about dead reeds, it doesn't even have to be one that's too hard for you. Just occasionally, nestling among your array of favoured RJS or Alexanders, you come across one that's just, well, a lolly stick or plant label.

Has anyone ever tried filing or sanding down one of those wooden forks you get in chip shops :erm: ?

Cheers, Bob
