Im looking to shell out some hard earned cash on my first sax and have fell in love with the Trevor James Limited Edition 25th Ann sax, i love the black bell and silver pads and the detailing

please help

P.s Did they ever do a 25 anniversary gold laquar version ?

Have a look at the Hanson saxes, too.

Many of us on this forum can vouch personally for their quality and VFM 🙂

If you want a 'special' finish, talk to Alastair Hanson; I'd bet that if they can accommodate you they will!

Very true

Hey there Skud Kid,

I haven't played a Hanson, but they seem to have really good reviews here. I own a trevor james classic tenor and I think they're good value for money. Also, the limited edition one does look rather special.

So I think you should do it. DO IT NOW

😉

Just phoned trevor james and they have told me to get the serial number of the sax i have seen to check out that it is a genuine item

I have managed to talk the guy down to 775 for the sax which was really my budget gone. I found out it is a gold sax but i thought that al the anniversary editions were nickel and black?

Anyway nice to meet you all and hope to get some good advice being a newbie to the site and the saxophone for that matter

well just a update i bit the bullet and bought a sax off saxophones.co.uk instead of the one off e bay and i get the feeling im gonna love it. I went for the one i want instead of my budget. The girlfriends purse is gonna be hit hard this month, guess she will be paying for meals or once lol

Please check out the link and tell me what you think of my new sax, oh by the way its alto im learning

cheers guys :w00t:

That link is to the whole saxophones.co.uk site (The site is in a frameset so you'll need to link to the actual picture or page - I think you need to right click or ctrl click to do that)

Good man.

I am sure it's a decision you won't regret. I also blew a large chunk of money I had earmarked for school on my first saxophone. Best purchase I ever made ;o)

Good luck

Funny how one's first "real" sax has an almost initiation rite mysticism about it regarding looks/cosmetics etc. As you progress and mature as a musician, the main priorities will be how it plays/sounds.

Please don't think that I'm knocking your selection, as judging by what my British friends say about these horns, they are nice in all regards. I'm just reminiscing about a rite we all seem to matriculate through as horn players/collectors.

Be prepared to build a virtual shrine to this brand spanking new, shiny horn until the newness wears off! I know I did with my first one long (too long!) ago.😉

A hearty welcome the the club M8!😀

Hear hear.

My first sax was an Earlham "Artist" model. Knowing absolutely nothing about saxophones, I fell in love with it's gunmetal grey/black finish and gold keys.

And I still love it. It's held its own among other saxophones at jams, recording sessions and gigs. It sounds lovely.

It's old and quite battered, the action is worn out and it would cost more to repair than the horn is worth, but it has HUGE sentimental value.

🙂

Yeah, I wish I still had my Buescher Aristocrat 200. No top F#, octave key totally awkward to work, r.h. F# in the wrong place, weighed a ton but hey I learned my first few tunes on it so I loved it. After that the Trevor James was easy!

All the best Skud Kid, have fun with it. Where are you, btw?

Cheers, Bob

I live in newcastle and there dont seem to be a massive amount of sax following up here. Still looking and im sure i will find places to shop and find gig to attend, and watch only lol

Hi skud

I found this guy just googling:

http://www.music-works.uk.com/lessons.htm - he could put you in touch with some other sax players or ask your own teacher to get you together with other like minded beginners. There is nothing like playing with other people to help you improve.

Also check out the music department at the university - they may have some gigs you could go see.

Anyway have fun honkin'
Sue

Post some pics when it arrives, I thought about the Tenor version before I got my Ref 36....

I'm sure you'll love it....

Similar threads... or are they? Maybe not but they could be worth reading anyway 😀
